Facebook is Third Largest County In The World
Palo Alto, California – Facebook has served over 600 million active users, with as many as 50% of those users logging onto Facebook on any given day. If Facebook was a country it would be the third-largest in the world. The average fb user has 130 friends and is connected through 80 pages, groups, and events. So now might be a good time to ask yourself, do you have a presence there? At Amazon.com there are over 6,000 Facebook related books and items for sale on Amazon.com
In the last 30 days alone Facebook.com has provided the Mountain Weekly News with 1,127 FREE reader visits. Which accounts for 7.74% of our total traffic sources online. In the past the percentage of viewers accessing out site from facebook has been as high as 44% for the month.
Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook which currently has over 600 million users knows there are some 5 billion people in the world. In his eyes the social media website that was founded in 2004 has a long way to go in terms of growth. He literally wants to takeover the world from our perspective. However as things grow new challenges arise like the company’s plans to pass the 500-shareholder limit in 2011. In the SEC world any company with over 500 shareholders is required to publicly report their financial information.
And it gets even better, Goldman Sachs recently invested $450 million dollars into Facebook.com. Analysts are now suggesting Facebook’s value around $50 Billion. These numbers are huge, larger then that of many industrial nations total worth. According to Forbes.com “Facebook had a net income of $200 million in 2009 with revenues of $777 million. Reuters reported today that Facebook generated another $1.2 billion in revenue and net net income of $355 million in the first nine months of 2010.”
So what does Facebook mean to you? When the site was first launched it was an “exclusive” website only available to college students with a valid university email address. At the time my former school – Orange Coast Community College was not allowed on Facebook as it as a public community college. Everyone seems to have forgotten that Mark had originally tried to keep out anyone that was not spending a fortune on their education.
So the question is will we have the chance to buy IPO shares of Facebook? We doubt it, Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg can easily get away without going public by simply making all of the companies financial information available.
Will Facebook be able to tap into other non-western countries? In China 200+ million residents use the social media site QQ. A service called Vkontakte is the Russian version with around 100 million users. And the list go and and on, however American products and brands like Coca-Cola and McDonald’s have done well in other markets so only time will tell..
If Facebook wants to take over the world, they better hire some international trade lawyers as it seems each country will have there own sets of rules and regulations to deal with. Can a bunch of Engineers living in the Bay area re-write the future??
