Snowboard Resort Expanding ..

Las Vegas, Nevada – The Humoldt-Toiyabe National Forest Service has accepted the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort’s Master Development Plan to expand the ski area. Plans call to add 50 trails and 10 lifts, with increased snowmaking capability across the mountain. The extensive plan will take many years to complete however once fully operational should bring a huge boost to the local economy and put Las Vegas on the map as a ski destination.

This year the LVSSR was one of the first in the country to turn on their chairlifts and La Nina could have big things in store for the resort this winter. We had planned on hitting up opening day for the Mountain Weekly News but have decided to come checkout the resort later in the year during the Consumer Electronics show. God only knows I will be joinsing to make some turns after putting in many miles on the convention center show floor.

According to Stephanie Forte who’s agency represents the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort “It’s a very exciting time for LVSSR” we could not agree more!!

So were wondering are there hotels in Vegas offering ski packages? If not they should start ASAP, as this looks to be one of the hidden gems in the ski industry and with the right marketing campaign will surely draw skiers and gamblers to the resort.

Untamed Borders was the first company to run ski trips to Afghanistan. After three successful seasons they company and guides will be back in 2014 concentrating on skiing in the Bamian region of Central Afghanistan. Bamian now has a small ski rental shop set up by a local entrepreneur and has local ski guides familiar with the mountains.

The 10 day trip will be led by an internationally certified mountain guide assisted by the local Afghan ski guides. Guests do not need any prior ski touring experience. The trip is a chance to experience the incredible natural beauty of Afghanistan combined with skiing in one of the least visited regions in the world. Guest fly into Kabul and then head to the beautiful and peaceful Bamian valley to ski in the Koh e Baba mountain range and visit the remains of the world’s largest standing Buddha statues that overlook the town and the ancient cities of Shah e Zohak and Shah e Golghola.
