It’s not just gas prices that are falling as of late, jet fuel cost have gone down in recent months as well and with that the airline industry is surprisingly passing on the savings to you and I. Now would be a good time to start thinking about a mud season surf trip.
With that being said I wanted to highlight a few deals that are too good to pass up.
Bali Surf Travel
Flights from LAX to Denpasar, Bali on China Air are currently available for $621 RT. When I flew to Bali in 2013 that same flight cost over $1200 RT.
Why should you go to Bali? Well to surf of course, plus Bali’s full of cheap amazing local food (nasi goreng, nasi campur), incredible culture and some the nicest people on earth. The Indonesia Rupiah is weak against the Dollar. Current exchange rates are 1USD – 13,509.99 Rupiah.
Bali can get crowded in the water, but if you avoid Ulu’s and head to any other wave on the island crowds are manageable. Here’s a tip, head to the east side… Or better yet hop on a boat to Lombok! And if you can track down California born surfer Travis Potter, you’ll be stoked.
El Salvador Surf Travel
Flights from LAX to San Salvador, El Salvador on Spirit Airlines are currently available for $238 RT. Normally this flight runs around $600 or so has been the case the past two years.
Now El Sal is not for everyone, if your flashy or known to cause trouble avoid this place like the plaque. That being said if you speak Spanish or are willing to learn and have a spice for adventure in your life you just might enjoy some authentic Central America. Best of all they use the US dollar in El Sal, uno, dose, trace and you’re set.
I have stayed in the tourist area of El Tunco and down in Los Flores, everywhere else in between your safety can not be guaranteed, nor can it be in the places I mentioned. As a regular foot surfer, it will be hard to find a better wave on the planet than Punta Roca, Los Flores and Punta Mango. These waves consistently deliver, however you might want to sneak down to El Sal quickly, before it’s fully blown out. The Brazi’s are on the prowl and California surfers are now returning..
Mexico Surf Travel
Flights from LAX to Huatulco Oaxaca, Mexico on Aeromexico are currently available for $339 RT. I have no clue what this flight normally runs. Nor can I really tell you much about this zone. Not yet at least… Honestly I may have already said to much so for this one Google will be your best friend…
Galápagos Islands Ecuador
Flights from LAX to the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador on COPA Airlines are currently available for $793 RT. This is not only a solid bet for surf as the islands picks up North, West and South Swells but a place you can bring your chick along too. The Galápagos islands are one of the premiere places in the world for wildlife viewing.
