Saturday night there was a great bluegrass show at Denver’s Ogden Theatre. Keller Williams joined the Travelin McCourys for the third night of a three show Colorado run to with Williams’ less traditional songwriting style. The Traveling McCourys is a collaboration of Bluegrass greats from the Del McCoury band. With Keller Williams joining Rob McCoury on banjo,Keller Williams and the Travelin McCourys Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, fiddler Jason Carter and Alan Bartman on stand up bass, this band is packed with songwriting talent and classic old school bluegrass.

Keller Williams fans are used to seeing him perform without any band, with his single guitar and unique “looping” style performances. In some ways, this is a strange pairing, but when you consider the high energy and creative songwriting styles of Williams and the raw musical talent of the Traveling McCourys, this meeting feels quite natural. The classic bluegrass is given a different twist while Keller’s free form is a bit grounded and brought down to earth. Dedicated McCoury fans enjoying the traditional jams of the MCcourys were rewarded with a special treat as well, when Del McCoury himself treated them to a special guest appearance for a few songs.

Although this was not a sold out show, the crowd of bluegrass fans and Keller Williams faithfuls was attentive and quite appreciative. All in all this was a very enjoyable show; and a good time was had by all.
