Helly Hansen Mission Jacket Review
So this is what a down jacket should look and feel like. I was given the Helly Hansen Mission Down jacket to product test in the coldest part of Colorado, Crested Butte. When temperatures dropped to below zero for weeks on end, this was the only jacket that kept me warm when stepping outside!
Weight: Being a larger puffy style down jacket the Mission weights a bit more then a traditional outerwear shell. With the added weight the jacket is perfect for any around the town errands you may have or for standing outside in the snow. The Mission Down Jacket would also work for very cold day spent at your local ski resort, and with all the added padding if you fell down odds are you would just bounce back up.. I would not recommend this coat for anyone that likes to hike while skiing as you would just get way to warm.
Waterproof Rating: 15,000 mm waterproofness and 15,000 g breathability. Perfect for cold, windy and wet challenges, Helly TechXP is engineered to fit demanding use.
Fit: For a puffy coat the Helly Hansen Mission Down offers a nice surprisingly snug fit. Once I have the jacket on, I never want to take it. Numerous days I have come home and just sat on the couch while still in my coat. It feels like your wrapped up in a blanket with a snugie and the Pillsbury Doy boy, very comfortable. And the only thing I will wear outdoors when the temperatures get below zero.
Construction: Helly Hansen’s Men’s Mission Down Jacket is made with 510 g down insulation featuring a water-resistant performance fabric with a weight-to- warmth ratio of 80/20. And Water-resistant mechanical zippers.
Riding: The jacket was a bit heavy and bulky for my riding style. However if you live in a cold environment or plan on traveling to a resort with cold temperatures and like to cruise down groomed runs the Men’s Mission Down is worth checking out. For people that are overly active anything with down seems to be a bit restrictive. Down is made to keep you warm, if you are into a more sport style jacket for skiing I would recommend the Helly Hansen Enigma Coat.
Overall Impression: If you have trouble staying warm I would highly recommend purchasing the Helly Hansen Men’s Mission Down Jacket. Everyone that has seen me wearing the coat around town has commented on how warm it looks and how nice the style is. Helly Hansen once again has made an incredible piece or skiing outerwear. Helly Hansen is far from being a fad, the company was founded in 1877 by Helly Juell Hansen producing oilskin jackets, now they keep some of the most extreme athletes in the world from being exposed to the elements.. Why not join the worlds best?
