Paul Miles lives in Melbourne, Australia; has five self-published books on the band Motley Crue and was hired to make sure the manuscript for Motley Crue’s autobiography “The Dirt: Confessions Of The World’s Most Notorious Rocks Band” was factually accurate. While working within the rock and roll world he came up with the idea for a book about sex advice from rock stars, as we all know, music and sex go hand and hand (so to speak).
In this book 23 musicians from various bands are interviewed on various subjects. Band members are asked the same questions, and each get a chance to offer their own advice based on experiences or take on the question. I like the honest approach of this book; it’s humorous, insightful and educational. Sex Tips from Rocks Stars shows you that rock stars are really no different from you and I. It is also handles questions about sex in a respectful and interesting way; it is not crude, pornographic or distasteful.
Some of the musicians interviewed in the book include: Allison Robertson guitarist for the Donnas, singer Andrew W.K., Bruce Kulick of Grand Funk Railroad and KISS, Doug Robb singer for Hoobastank, Jesse “The Devil” Hughes guitarist and singer for Eagles of Death Metal and Lemmy singer and bassist for Motorhead. As the book progresses you get a feel for the personalities of the different musicians, Lemmy and Jesse Hughes have some great sarcastic one-liners that will have you rolling on the floor with laughter.
Some of the subjects in this book include: Beauty & Attraction, Clothing & Lingerie, Daring Locations, Divorce, Groupies, Safe Sex and various related to traveling the globe in a successful rock band.
We have all wondered what it would be like to be a world-class musician or movie star. Sex Tips from Rocks offers a little insight on what it might be like from a first person account. It is interesting to find out that many rock stars seem just like normal people and aren’t the hedonistic gods we make them out to be, others on are just as crazy or crazier that we thought.
Overall Impression: This book is a fun read, it offers advice and education in a humorous way. This would be a great gift for anyone who is a big fan of any of the musicians interviewed in the book. It would also be a good book for any friends who may or may not think they god’s gift to opposite sex, it might teach them a few things about how to be a more respectful person and lover. Either way the book in entertaining and worth the read.
