Sock Reviews
Runners rejoice, the Mountain Weekly News has put together a list of the top 5 performance trail running socks we tested over the summer.
#1 Lorpen – Tri-Layer Trail Light
Lorpen’s Tri Layer Light sock is incredibly comfortable with padding in just the right places. On numerous occasion I found myself walking around the house still in my Lorpen trail running socks long after taking my shoes were off. Regardless of how hard you push the bottom of your feet will stay nice and cushioned even on long distance runs with the Tri-Layer Trail Light socks.

#2 Point6 – Running Light Mini
The founders of the Merino wool movement have started a new performance sock company offering socks for years round enjoyment. Point6 has created the Running Light Mini, a highly breathable thin merino wool sock. To be honest I was hesitant to stuff wool socks into my running shoes as I thought it would cause my feet to sweat and blister. I was completely wrong as most of my socks will be switching over to merino wool due to the great air flow.

#3 Dahlgren – Ultra Light Trail
Advertised as “zero bulk” we couldn’t agree more. The Dahlgren Ultra Light Trail running sock is the lightest sock we tested this year. A merino wool/alpaca blend construction allows for great breathe-ability in the sock. Even after stream crossing the Dahlgren socks seamed to dry quicker then all the rest of the socks in our test.

#4 Injinji – Mini Crew
Gloves for your feet, well sort of the Injinji Mini Crew is the original performance toesock. It was a little awkward putting the form fitting toe socks on at first, however once on I could instantly see the benefits. While running you can dig deeper and hold onto much steeper terrain as your toes curl into the shoes holding onto the earth with primitive power. I just wish the bottom of the Injinji – Mini Crew socks had a bit more padding.

#5 Darn Tough – Light Hiker
Sock from Vermont that use Italian knitting machines to create a cushioned feel featuring an undetectable toe seem. The Light Hiker might just be the most comfortable sock I have ever tried on. Once winter hits Darn Tough socks will be my go to gear to stay warm for both inside and outside use. With an unconditional lifetime guarantee you can’t go wrong with a pair of Darn Tough socks.

All the above socks were tested and abused in Crested Butte, Colorado with temperatures ranging from the high 30′s to low 80′s. A combination of dirt, street and lots of mud were thrown at all the socks to be sure we tested them to the max.
Are there any socks that should have made the list that we left out?
