University of Colorado hosted Sacramento State on historic Folsom Field for their home opener. The buffaloes have an extremely young team with only eight seniors and 42 true freshmen. Colorado has the fourth youngest team in the country. Both of the starting defensive corners are true freshmen.
Sacramento won the toss and elected to defer to the second half.

First-half
• (COL) #46 Powell, a true freshman, ran 65 yards for a touchdown, capping off a 3 play 75 yard drive.
• (COL) #46 Powell after his 14 yard pass, punched in a 1 yard touchdown run, this capped off an 8 play 72 yard drive.
• (SAC) #2 Carter received a 13 yard touchdown pass from #12 Safron, after an 11 play 72 yard drive.
This completed the first quarter Buffaloes 14 Hornets 7.
• (SAC) #21 Ellis powered in a 2 yard touchdown run, after a 9 play 89 yard drive.
• (SAC) #80 Bradnecks received a 35 yard touchdown pass from Safron, capping off and 8 play 80 yard drive.
• (COL) #88 Slavin received a 10 yard touchdown pass from #4 Webb, after going 77 yards in 8 plays.
• (SAC) #58 Runkeyon finished and eight play 59 yard drive with a field goal.

This completed the first half with a score of Buffaloes 21 Hornets 24.

The second half started with Ralphie leading the Colorado buffaloes back onto the field. Ralphie, the school mascot, can run a 40 in 4 seconds. With that kind of speed and power of this Buffalo it could play several positions.
Second-half

• (COL) #46 Powell punched in a 1 yard touchdown run.
This ended the third quarter Buffaloes 28 Hornets 24.
• (SAC) #58 Runkeyon kicked a 31 yard field goal.
• (SAC) #58 Runkeyon, with one second left in the game, kicked the game-winning field goal. This drive was kept alive with two pass interference calls against the buffaloes.

The final score was the Buffaloes 28 the Hornets 30.

#46 Powell, from Colorado, set a new freshmen touchdown record with the three he scored during this game.
