Do you care where the products in your home come from? Or stop to think who is creating these appliances, and at what cost? I wanted to put together a list of brands that are manufactured in North America specifically for your kitchen. The Best American Made Kitchen Products:
Before we dive into this list, if you’re wondering why American manufacturing matters, let this guy, whom everyone knows your name give some backstory. (Click the PLAY Button above)
Manufactured in Greenville, Ohio
Ahh the big red thing taking up a ton of your counter space, you know the one. If you’re not familiar with the KitchenAid mixer you are probably either A. single or B. gluten free (they do have gluten free baking recipes nowadays). Buying American made won’t be cheap when it comes to KitchenAid as there mixers start around $200, however the brand was founded in Ohio in 1941 and some of the mixers from way back when are still churning along, even the 65 pound ones.
Manufactured in Greenwood, Mississippi
Back in 1980 the founder of Viking Ranges knew something was missing from his home kitchen, commercial style appliances. Viking introduced the worlds first professional grade cooking range for the home. Now you can cook like your favorite chefs without the stress of working in a commercial kitchen. American engineering combined with southern hospitality that can not be beat.
Manufactured in Amana, Iowa
Now lets be clear here, Maytag aka Wirlpool is a big brand, not all of their goods are manufactured in North America. That being said Maytag’s French door top compartment refrigerators models are made in Amana, Iowa. And the company just invested $3.1 million recently into the companies $12 million dollar production facility in Iowa. Kudos to a global brand that can continue to keep jobs in America.
Manufactured in Madison, Wisconsin
People that care about keeping their food fresh surely have heard of the Sub-Zero brand. Sub-Zero was the first company to manufacture built-in refrigerators in the 1950s. Thanks to the company’s “Dual Refrigerator Technology” Sub-Zero fridges are able to keep fresh food fresher and preserve frozen food longer. Plus I like the fact that 75% of the stainless steel they use is recycled as well as 50% of the plastic used in the refrigerators, that’s called being green. Last but not least Sub-Zero uses “restricting dissemination” with their retailers to keep prices in check across all channels.
Manufactured in New Bern, South Carolina and La Follette, Tennessee
Lets be clear here that Thermador is owner by German based Bosch, however the Thermador brand has been making kitchen appliances in North America since 1947. They do still manufacture Thermador dishwashers, cook-tops, and washers stateside. Back in 2001 celebrity Chef Julia Child’s kitchen was inducted into the Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of American History included in the mix was a Thermador oven, so you know it must be good.
Manufactured in Creston, Iowa
What does made in the USA mean anyways? According to the Federal Trade Commission, in order to claim a product is “Made in the USA”, said product must be all or virtually all manufactured in the USA. Well Bunn actually manufactures their higher end coffee maker models (10 cup Velocity Brew® BX & trifecta® MB) in the United States. If you saw the ABC News segment about made in America you may have heard of Bunn. This was the first time I was given access to the brand for this piece. And now my coffee beans (mostly foreign, oh the irony) can be brewed in an American made product.
Supporting the brands above keeps workers in the United States employed, its that simple. I truly hope the next time you need to make a purchase you think about where these goods are made, read the labels, ask the brands where they are manufactured.
Keep in mind these products just *may cost more than their foreign counterparts? Are you willing to pay for quality?
Lets bring jobs back to the Americas!!!
