TETON VILLAGE, WYO – The giant hole in the ground next to the tram in Jackson Hole is nearing completion. Rumors have been circling around town that the new condos being built are owned by Vail Resorts top employees. Although we can not confirm or deny those rumors here is what we know.
Jackson Hole’s former Village Center building is long gone, this is where locals and visitors alike would flock for cheap pizza and cold beers. The same building housed Teton Gravity Research which essentially made Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and extreme skiing what is is today, along with a place to grab breakfast burritos and such the former VC building was the core of Jackson Hole.
So why on earth would anyone remove such a historic landmark?
Caldera House Membership
Membership pricing for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s Caldera House has yet to be announced. The Caldera House will open for business this year in 2016 featuring a mix of “luxury condos, a cafe, restaurant, and sports shop for all visitors of the resort to enjoy”. Keyword here is visitors of the resort, hopefully that equals anyone paying to ski or ride JHMR, but odds are this will be a membership only club.
Hold the presses, their will now be valet parking at the mountain, or at least for Caldera House guest.
My guess is as good as yours as to what ski in ski out condos at the caldera house teton village located next to the Tram in Jackson will sell for? Odds are millions and millions of dollars. Funny as that ground will always be notorious for beer drinking and shenanigans, it was TGR’s home for god’s sake.
Things are changing fast in Jackson, the days of the wild west, rowdy ski bums are long gone. These days it’s about wealth, class and how rad you look standing in the tram line.
As the sticker says “I bet you thought you were cool in Colorado” same can be said for anyone skiing the village these days.
