MORRISON, CO – American rockers Gov’t Mule cranked their amps up to 10 or full blast as the performed at Red Rocks Amphitheatre to mark the bands annual end of summer concert. Gov’t Mule was also joined by The Avett Brothers and Truth & Salvage Co for the bands concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Gov’t Mule was formed by Warren Haynes and Allen Woody(RIP) as a side project to the Allman Brothers Band. Warren felt there was a need for a hard rock power group Ala Deep Purple, and so Gov’t Mule was born. The current lineup consist of Warren Haynes (guitar, vocals), Matt Abts (drums, percussion), Jorgen Carlsson (bass) and Danny Louis (keyboards, guitar, vocals).

Along with Warren was the rock solid Matt Abts behind the drum kit, Danny Louis on keyboard and even guitar for a few songs and new bass player Jorgen Carlsson throwing down at Red Rocks. The first set started out with rocking Gov’t Mule tunes but on the mellow side, if that’s possible for Gov’t Mule.. Warren Haynes came out for the second set and told the crowd “This is the Rock-N-Roll portion of the show” and with that the guitars were cutting notes thru the thin rocky mountain air. Warrens guitar is hypnotic, you can close your eyes and really drift off with the notes. A master with his arsenal of weapons on display at Red Rocks. Special guest Eric Krasno founding member of Soulive and Lettuce added his chops on the guitar much to the delight of the Colorado crowd.

Gov’t Mule is heading to Oakland for a spooky Halloween show on 10/30 and before that making a stop in Las Vegas with their friends Widespread Panic for an intimate night of music at the Hard Rock’s legendary “Joint”. The Mountain Weekly News looks forward to bringing our readers coverage from the Vegas show..

The Avett Brothers performed before Govt’ Mule and really had the crowd rocking with a mix of what can really only be described as punk rock bluegrass. It was fast, fun and everyone was dancing.

    • George,

Thanks for the feedback, I decided against heading to Vegas to cover Mule and Panic. Were sticking with the mountains, for now…
