STS9 Red Rocks Concert Photo: Mike Hardaker | Mountain Weekly News

MORRISON, CO – STS9 returned to Red Rocks Amphitheatre for 2 nights of electronica dance music mixed with good ole fashion rock-n-roll. The crowd showed up early and stayed late to support the Los Angeles (edit: Santa Cruz, CA) based Sound Tribe Sector Nine. Also on the bill with STS9 over the weekend were the Thievery Corporation and Ghostland Observatory opening.

STS9 seemed to scale back their light show for the Red Rocks run of concerts compared to years past. The lights however were still a driving force behind the band, maybe with the new technology they don’t need as many lighting rigs.

The crowd was young, and full of life. Could this be the future of American music? With 2 sold out nights at Red Rocks it seems that Sound Tribe Sector Nine is really gaining momentum in mainstream music.

  1. Are you joking me? dave matthews? Mike, you obviously do not know sts9’s music or their fan base. And Saxton back on lights was incredible. This article is trash.

    • LB,

Thank you for taking the time to comment, as I mentioned a fan told me HE thought “STS9 could be the next DMB of the electronica scene” by that I assume he meant they would be popular almost mainstream popular like DMB compared to Phish and Panic etc.. All 3 are jambands just Dave plays to a more mainstream crowd.

The lights were great, it was a scaled down lighting rig from what I was told via employees that setup the stage all morning. With techonolgy you dont need to hang as many lights etc from the rafters. Please keep following along!!

  2. STS9 is NOT from Los Angeles. Where did you even read that? I’m pretty sure the band’s Wikipedia page doesn’t even say that.

    • Critic,

Your right, based in Santa Cruz or atleast were when I started hearing about them. Thanks for calling us out, we appreciate the feedback

  3. Fabulous photos & great story! Must have been a feast for the eyes and the ears – a real happening!
