The Armada Balfour Gore-Tex Jacket is an essential winter shell. It is a simple stripped down shell that has everything the serious winter recreationalist needs and nothing else. It is comfortable, durable, and functional in the snow.
Armada Balfour Jacket Review
This Armada Jacket has every important feature that makes a shell comfortable even in the worst conditions. It’s long enough that it doesn’t ride up. It’s loose enough that other layers fit easily underneath, but not so bulky that it gets in the way. The zipper zips to the side of the face. Underarm zips provide ventilation so you don’t get too hot when hiking or skinning. A powder skirt with a jacket to pant snaps, elastic drawstrings around the waist and hood, as well as wrist gators all keep the wind and snow out. These are just some of the features of this jacket that help keep the wearer dry.

Armada Jacket Durability
The shell is made of Gore-Tex, which is the industry standard for hard shell waterproof outerwear. Taped seams and water-repellent zippers round out the moisture defense system. The durability of the Gore-Tex also makes it resistant to tearing and ensures the shell will remain watertight.
This Jacket was designed with function in mind, which is what makes it such a worthy shell. However, there are a few things about this jacket that might cause problems for some. As is the case with most shells on the market, the two front pockets are low enough that they are difficult to access when wearing a backpack waist belt. The hood is a little too tight to fit comfortably over a helmet.
Overall the Armada Belfour jacket ($599.95) has everything I look for in a winter shell. It is a high-quality high-performance comfortable shell that works well whether skiing the resort or spending the day in the backcountry. The Armada Balfour jacket is the ideal winter hard shell.
