The Orvis Suspension System Vest is the perfect answer to balancing the weight of your bird hunting gear. Instead of resting all the weight on your shoulders via traditional bird hunting vest of the past, the Orvis Birding Vest acts more like a backpack with suspension straps allowing the user to carry weight over long distance without ever feeling fatigued.
Sizing was pretty straightforward on the Orvis Suspension System Vest, even fresh out of the box the fit was spot on. Adjusting the vest in the field is super easy to do thanks to its use of familiar backpack straps. Along with the shoulder adjustments the Suspension System Vest from Orvis also comes with a torso belt to help keep your load in place.
On the front of the vest are 2 deep pockets designed for holding shells, (5 on each side) along with room for snacks and Velcro enclosures inside the pockets that work great for securing items like keys or money.
The Vest features water bottle sleeves on each side that are easily accessible. The worst feeling in the world is digging around for your water bottle, or heaven forbid trying to fit it back into the sleeve, luckily Orvis designed this pack to make getting your water bottle in and out super easy.
One thing that can be changed is the back pocket for holding birds. I took some serious yoga style moves to finally put a bird inside the vest.
Weighing in at 11.3 oz. the Suspension Vest for Orvis is light years lighter than traditional leather hunting vest we reviewed for upland hunting in the past. Instead, Orvis designed a vest that works great for moving up and over mountainous terrain. Wearing this vest will quickly make you forget about your old favorite bird hunting vest as Orvis knocked it out of the park with the Orvis Suspension System Vest ($149).
