Smith is one of North America’s leading companies for ski accessories, and this year Smith did not disappoint with their expansive line of women’s helmets. Amongst the eight helmets that were released this year was the Smith Valence Helmet.
Smith Valence Helmet Review
The first thing noticed when pulling the Smith Valence helmet out of the box is how stylish it is. It is both modern and sleek and comes in 8 colors. Blackberry is the color of the one being reviewed, and along with several others, has a beautiful satin coating. Subtle bling sets this helmet off, and the removable faux fur lined ear pads are not only stylish but provide your ears with warmth and comfort on even the chilliest days. There is also a spot in the ear pads for Skullcandy speakers. The Valence also has a short brim that prevents goggle vents from clogging and keeps the gaper-gap at bay.
Smith is known for the incredible fit of their helmets, and the Valence lives up to those standards. Its removable liner is a mixture of mesh and padding that make the helmet a breeze to wear all day without letting your head get too hot. Another way the Valence combats head heat is through eighteen air vents, all of which are controlled with a single slide adjustment. If you are a person who’s helmet tends to get a little stinky, Smith lines their helmet with X-Static, which acts as an antimicrobial. One of my favorite features on this helmet is the easy to use google lock. Opposed to a button system, the Valence uses a band and hook system which I find to be more user-friendly. Another noteworthy feature is the size adjustment system. Using the xBoa fit system, the helmet can easily be tightened with one hand, and it stays in place throughout the day.
Smith really seems to know their female market, and evidence of this can be seen in the Smith Valence Helmet ($180.00). Whether you’re ripping groomers, shredding park, or riding technical backcountry lines, Smith’s attention to both technical and aesthetic details make this a must-have for this riding season.
