Known as the godfather of 686’s snowboard pants the 686 Smarty Cargo Pant is loved by many including myself. This year’s 686 Smarty Cargo Pants are available from XS to XXL. So regardless of your size 686 can help assure an incredible look, not to emo not to baggy.
One of the best things about supporting 686 and the Smarty line in particular, is these pants are essentially 2 pairs in one. I have been running around in the Tetons in these rad shred pants and wanted to share some feedback in my review below:

First up there is plenty of pockets to hold all your gadgets, currently I count 5 however I see to find more stash spots all the time. Along with a grip of pockets this tried and true Smarty coat comes with a high water proof rating thanks to the Infidry 15k waterproofing lamineted into the polyester outer shell.
I honestly never rock these pants with the liner so as far as weight goes they are perfect without 🙂 I run hot, hike a ton and usually am out splitboarding so I don’t really need the extra warmth down low, even here in the Tetons.
That being said do you ride resorts mainly? Do you sit on chairlifts alot, or your snowmobile? If you answered yes than the 686 Smarty Caro Pant is a solid option. And not to worry for those living in warmer climates the fleece liner is removable dropping even more weight off the pants. Simply zip them out and you have a rad pair of lounging pants for around the house.
Thanks to a 15,000mm water proof and 10,000gm breathability odds are unless you are having a really bad day you’re going to be warm and dry in almost any weather conditions you can throw at the Smarty’s thanks to 686’s legendary microporous Infidry material. Without getting to technical this allows moisture to exit from the pants but not enter in!

For touring without the inside fleece layer I felt these were the perfect pants, with the fleece in they were a bit warm for me. I did manage to take these out to Baker with for some early El Nino pow. The cold wet conditions in the Pacific Northwest were a great testing ground and event better was getting to drive down the road from Mt Baker with a dry bottom for once. *freaking unheard of, especially in the NW.
A tried and trued fit, not to baggy not to tight, just right. The Smarty Cargo pants easily fit over snowboard boots and lock into place with a hook via lace or boa system. I was even able to wear knees pads under the pants without effecting the mobility. Always be sure to dial in your size using the 686 size chart
If you’re looking for a great pair of pants to wear on and off the hill the 686 Smarty Pants ($220) has earned a reputation among snowboarder around the world as being just that. This years styles and fits will have people wearing their pants long into the night.
Aside from the look these are some of the most durable, long lasting, functioning snowboard pants currently on the market. Best of all Mike and the 686 crew are actual snowboarders making outerwear for like minded riders.

The 686 Smarty Cargo Pant is 2 pants in one, very technical with lots of pockets, extremely warm and the gunmetal stripes add serious style to the slopes.
Having a microfleece liner on the inside of the pants adds some weight but after a few laps on the hill you wont notice. And on cold days you will be happy to have the extra layer under you on the chairlift.
100% nylon with fully taped seems. 686 makes gear to last, these pants have gone through many days on the hill, run-ins with tree branches, and all sorts of traveling and are still holding up as strong as ever.
15,000mm waterproof and 10,000gm breathability rating. I have worn these pants from Haines, Alaska to Crystal Mountain, WA and back. Never once did water or snow get me wet. Even in pouring rain at Crystal Mountain, I stayed nice and dry while wearing the 686 Smarty Cargo Command Pant.
The 686 Smarty Command Cargo Pants are designed to be a little on the baggy side allowing for tons of flexibility while riding, walking around town or lounging at your house. Having a fleece liner inside the pants adds a light layer of protection during impacts or when sitting on the snow. The pockets are well thought out and can hold all your gear and some.
Sometimes I feel like I could wear these pants into a major city and I wouldn’t feel out of place. The gunmetal pinstripe adds style that is not normally scene on the slopes. Nothing wrong with something that stands out. If these were not as baggy they would be a home run, I guess I’m getting older..
The 686 Smarty Command Pant will keep you warm on and off the slopes. I have received numerous complements on these pants over the years. Being technical with tons of pockets and a high waterproof / breathability rating will allow you to spend long days out playing in the snow. If your looking for a ski or snowboard pant that functions well and has style be sure to check out 686 line of pants.
