ARAPAHOE BASIN, CO – Please join CAIC (Colorado Avalanche Information Center) and Arapahoe Basin Ski Area on Saturday, February 8th, 2014 for this year’s Beacon Bowl Competition. The Beacon Bowl is an event to raise awareness about avalanche safety in the Colorado Backcountry.
Teaming up with the CAIC and Arapahoe Basin for this all day event are sponsors like New Belgium, Ski Logik, Black Diamond/Pieps, BCA, Ortovox and Wilderness Sports. Last year, the event successfully rose over $10,000 for the CAIC. This year Arapahoe Basin has its sights set high to exceed last year’s amount to benefit the CAIC and their endeavor to foster awareness and learning of backcountry safety.
During the day participants will be broken down into two divisions, the professional and recreational, to race all over Arapahoe Basin to search for beacons buried in the snow in the fastest time possible. This year, a special addition has been made and professional ski patrollers in teams of two are eligible to with the Beacon Bowl Cup.

In addition to this race, the event boasts activities like simulated avalanche rescue scenarios, an avalanche dog demonstration, beacon clinics, a raffle, as well as a live and silent auction with a New Belgium Cruiser Bike as one of the highlighted auction items.
Registration and check-in begin at 8am in the A-Frame Lodge at Arapahoe Basin on Saturday, February 8th, 2014. The fee of $25 (discount will be applied for professional ski patrollers) gains you entry to the competition, a raffle ticket, a slice of pizza, and a beer during the Après Ski Party.
