When it comes to insulation, staying warm in wet conditions has always been a challenge. The Outdoor Vitals Men’s NovaPro Jacket attempts to set a new standard for lightweight, water-resistant warmth, and durability with its innovative Nova Zero Stitch™ fabric and DownLT™ insulation. Whether you’re venturing into the backcountry or braving cold urban environments, this jacket delivers performance without compromising comfort.

Weight

The Weight Was Non-Existent Making this Piece of Outwear from Outdoor Vitals Very Versatile | Photo Mountain Weekly News

Weighing in at just 13.85 ounces (Men’s Medium), the NovaPro Jacket is impressively light for a fully insulated puffy. The balance of warmth-to-weight makes it ideal for fast-moving adventures or packing into a small kit without taking up much space. Since it also compresses into its own pocket, it’s a breeze to carry for any trip.

Build Quality

The NovaPro Jacket is designed to last, featuring a highly durable 20-denier nylon shell with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment. What truly sets it apart is the Nova Zero Stitch™ technology, which eliminates thousands of stitch holes by weaving baffles directly into the fabric. This reduces wear and tear, prevents down loss, and significantly improves water resistance. Reinforced YKK zippers and an overall well-constructed design add to the jacket’s longevity.

To truly test the durability, we took this jacket on one of the most prolific bushwhacks in the Wasatch—something I usually wouldn’t dare do with a down jacket. Despite constant exposure to sharp branches and rugged terrain, the NovaPro held up incredibly well and didn’t tear at all. This level of resilience is nearly unheard of in ultralight insulation pieces, making it a standout for anyone who needs gear that can handle real abuse.

Fit and Features

With an athletic fit and a slightly loose cut, the NovaPro allows for easy layering without compressing insulation. The drop-back hem offers extra coverage, and adjustable features—including an insulated hood, hem cinch, and thumbholes—enhance comfort and versatility. The thumb holes are a unique feature that most jackets do not have, adding extra warmth and keeping sleeves in place during movement. Additionally, the NovaPro is equipped with pit zips, allowing for quick ventilation when activity levels rise. For reference, I am 5’9” and the medium jacket fits me perfectly.

DownLT™ Insulation

The NovaPro Jacket boasts 850 Fill Power HyperDry™ down blended with a small percentage of synthetic insulation both treated with a DWR for added stability in wet conditions. This means it retains loft and warmth even when exposed to moisture, a significant advantage over traditional down jackets. The carefully placed baffles prevent cold spots and ensure even distribution of warmth throughout the jacket.

Overall Impressions

The Men’s NovaPro Jacket ($224.99) isn’t the lightest down jacket on the market, but it more than makes up for it with its snagless durable construction, pit zips, and thumb holes. Its innovative Nova Zero Stitch™ fabric enhances durability and weather resistance, while DownLT™ insulation provides reliable warmth, even in damp conditions. Thoughtful features like underarm vents, insulated pockets, and a packable design make it a versatile choice for winter adventures.
