Luckeep X2 E-Bike Review
The Luckeep X2 E-bike is awesome! It goes 30 miles per hour, feels solid, looks sleek, integrated battery, nice phone mount, etc. This is the first e-bike we’ve tested that allowed us to fully leave our car behind and commute in traffic. Being able to traverse the 25mph streets of our town is a big deal. This e-bike is a true commuter. And it does it in great style.
Founded in 2015 by “Jackson”, Luckeep was founded out of a desire “to embark on adventures anew.” In the words of the founder, “I didn’t want to invest in an expensive car just to pursue adventure; I longed for simplicity. And riding a bike is as simple as it gets.” His desire to keep things car-free and affordable can be seen in the wide variety of affordable bikes Luckeep now offers: classic, step-through, folding, and even vintage-motorcycle-esque.
How to Buy

The X2 comes in just one size that fits adults from 5’3″- 6’4″. Ordering one is further simplified by the free shipping, the 30-day free trial, and the company’s partnership with Affirm. Affirm allows folks to create a payment plan for the bike starting at $94/mo or 0% APR. The bike comes in two colors, white or gray. Options abound further with the battery options – 20A, 20A+15A, 20A+20A, or 20A+25A. You can further customize your bike with accessories like a bike rack waterproof seat bag, an air pump, or a saddle bag.
Frame

This E-bike’s step-through frame makes hopping on and off easy. The rugged feeling frame can carry 330 pounds. We appreciate the quick-release seat post which makes it easy to share the bike with friends as well as do on-the-fly changes. The suspension does a great job absorbing vibrations and the comfy seat and wide tires provide additional comfort. The single-sided kickstand was easy to deploy and felt sturdy.
Motor & Battery

The Samsung/LG high-energy-density battery is seamlessly integrated into the downtube and comes in four options: 20A, 20A+15A, 20A+20A, or 20A+25A. The base battery provides 40 miles of throttle or 80 miles of pedal assist. The biggest battery provides 120 miles of pedal assist. The 750W brushless hub motor is beefier than most bike motors and provides a ton of oomph.

The bike allegedly weighs 70 pounds but that might be the weight with the extra battery. Whatever the bike may weigh, the bike maneuvers well and easily achieves its top speed of 30 mph. You can take advantage of the motor via the throttle (located on the right side) or five pedal assist levels (one being the least assist and five being the most assist). We were super happy with the peppiness of the pedal assist.

We were also stoked with how the motor seems to quickly stop when you stop pedaling as opposed to laggingly staying on like on some of the other bikes we’ve tested. We really appreciated the bike having a top speed of at least 25 mph so we could keep up with the flow of traffic rather than being relegated to the sometimes clogged bike paths.
The 48V 20Ah removable battery’s position in the downtube adds to the bike’s overall stability and low center of gravity. The battery is UL 2271 and UL 2849 Compliant. The wide tires and low center of gravity made this bike a joy when cornering. When charging the bike, the battery charges in 7 hours using a standard wall outlet.
Components

For a e-bike that is currently on sale for $1,399, the bike has wildly fancy components. The braking system is hydraulic with 180mm rotors and the shifting is 8-speed Shimano. The 12-32T cassette provides good range although we’d like to see home higher gearing to make pedaling useful at higher speeds.

The bike tech doesn’t stop at the battery and motor. The front and brake lights are super helpful. The LED display in the handlebar stem is a work of art and shows speed, battery output, and battery remaining. It even has a hidden USB charging port.
What Can Be Improved?

We’d love to see Luckeep consider turn signals to allow folks to signal their turning intentions without having to take their hands off the handlebars
The only thing that caught us off guard was that if you’re not pedaling, but you hold the throttle for 15ish seconds and then take your hand off the throttle, the bike keeps going. We weren’t sure if this was a feature or a bug, but it was certainly interesting. We can see value for folks who don’t want to pedal home from the grocery store and also don’t want to hold the throttle the entire way home.
Luckeep X2 E-Bike Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Top speed of 30 mph
- Fits adults from 5’3″-6’4″
- Integrated battery with long range
Cons:
- Lack of turn signals for signaling
- Throttle keeps going after stopping pedaling
Overall Impression

The Luckeep X2 is a high-quality speed machine at a fantastic price that can tackle long distances quickly. The X2 retails for $1,899, but is currently on sale for $1,399. This is a screaming deal and well below the price of fellow high-quality bikes from Aventon or Rad Power.
