The Rab Men’s Mythic Ultra Down Jacket has been great as a lightweight packable touring jacket as well as a resort jacket both lift service skiing as well as side country skiing.

Being 5’5″ I usually wear a Small jacket but the Mythic Euro size Medium fit very well as an alpine skiing outer layer. The sleeves are perfect length for me unlike my hard shells sleaves that are to long and bunch up on my wrists with gloves on. The hood is a good size and just big enough to pull over a ski helmet. A climbing helmet would be the ideal size to pull the hood over.

Weighing only 11oz it was great for throwing in my pack for ski touring and felt like a great lightweight outer layer for resort skiing.

The Para-Elasticated cuffs on this men’s down ski jacket are easy to pull over my glove cuffs even with both gloves on which most jackets I have struggled to close the gap between the glove and the jacket sleeves. There are not a lot of bells and whistles to the Mythic Down Jacket which I really enjoyed for ease of use and not searching multiple pockets for something.

Pertex Quantum

The ultralight 10D Pertex Quantum fabric has made it one of the easiest jackets to throw on over any type of underlayer or shirt for warming up quickly as well as shedding it before a hike. The fabric is also tough and very easy to quickly throw a pack over. Ive been very pleased with ease of movement both skiing and hiking and how warm it keeps me while feeling like I’m not wearing an outer layer. I can’t wait to see how it performs as a climbing jacket and hope it gives me freedom of movement climbing as it has skiing and BC hiking.

Improvements

  1. It would be a great multi-use jacket if it was reversable. The bright yellow inner layer would be ideal for BC use for keeping an eye on a ski partner or in the chance or an avalanche.
  2. I do wish it had an outer or inner chest pocket for phone or other quick grab items.
  3. It would also be a great light weight layer on those cold negative degree days due to how warm it kept me as just an outer layer.

The Mythic Ultra Down Jacket has almost replaced my hard-shell ski jacket. After several days skiing with it I’ve preferred the Mythic Down Ultra Jacket over my heavy, stiff outer shell for warmth and lightweight and ease of use with a pack. The simplicity of the pockets, wrist cuffs and hood makes the Mythic a quick and easy use outer shell or an under layer.

The compactness of it also makes it easy to pack and not worry about weight or room in my pack. It would be the perfect BC jacket if it was reversable with the bright yellow liner. For warm it has not lacked in keeping me warm even at top of the JHMR resort in high cold winds. I have more had to shed under layers from getting to warm while skiing.
