Scott Vertic Ripstop 3L Women’s Jacket
Ever since my go-to shell was stolen from my car last winter, I’ve been on the hunt for a ski jacket that meets my standards for warmth, versatility, and durability. While a few options have come close, the Scott Vertic Ripstop 3L Jacket truly stood up to the test. Designed as a freeride jacket built to withstand harsh conditions, it delivers exactly as promised.

I put the Vertic Ripstop 3L Jacket to the test on several tours in the Duffy in BC, encountering a variety of conditions. Through it all, the jacket performed exceptionally well, providing reliable protection, breathability, and comfort throughout my outings.
Technologies

Scott incorporates its 3-Layer Dryosphere Technology into this jacket, ensuring it is waterproof, windproof, and highly breathable. While ascending toward our intended ski line in the Steep Creek Range, the winds were howling, yet with only a base layer underneath, I felt no wind penetration— a relief as I forgot to pack my midlayer.
One of the biggest surprises ended up being the jacket’s breathability. I was able to skin the entire climb without needing to shed the jacket, which is a rarity for me. On the second day, as heavy snowfall set in, the Vertic Ripstop 3L Jacket kept me warm and dry, much appreciated when returning to an unheated hut.
Features and Fit

The Scott Vertic Ripstop Jacket incorporates all the essential features expected in a modern freeride shell, but each element functions exceptionally well. This jacket includes a chest pocket, hand pockets, interior cuffs, arm vents, a helmet-compatible hood, a powder skirt, and an interior goggle pocket.
The interior cuffs stood out as a particularly thoughtful detail, effectively preventing snow from creeping up the sleeves in deep conditions. Historically, I’ve struggled with helmet-compatible hoods staying securely in place during descents. However, the Jacket features an adjustable, helmet-compatible hood that provided a secure and lasting fit throughout the entire descent.
The highlight of this jacket for me had to be the fit. The loose fit allowed for layering without looking like a marshmallow. I found the length to be perfect, preventing snow from entering while skiing, while not being too long allowing for freedom of movement.
Overall Impression

For those seeking a freeride jacket that excels both on and off-piste, the Scott Ripstop 3L Vertic Women’s Jacket ($380.00) is a solid addition to your ski wardrobe. This durable and versatile shell is designed to withstand the harshest conditions while also serving as an excellent choice for a spring skiing shell.
