There are products that are made to be economical and there are products that are made to be the best. The Fischer RC4 Pro MV BOA fall into the latter category. These boots may be the very best on the market. Keep reading to find out why.

Note: you may see photos with my pants rolled up above the boot and think why is this guy skiing around looking like a dork? I was looking like a dork for you my dear readers, so you have a clear view of the boots.

When it comes to ski boots, the fit may be the most single most important attribute. The Fischer RC4 Pro MV BOA nails the fit in a way we’ve never seen before. Historically the hardest thing to get right in a ski boot is the tightness right above the ankle – where the second buckle lies. If the ankle is too narrow, like many single piece race boots, few will have the will power to spend an hour every morning trying to cram their foot into the ski boot. If the ankle is wider, sufficient stiffness (think power transfer) is sacrificed. The Fischer RC4 Pro MV BOA has fixed this with the ZipFit liner and BOA Fit System.

ZipFit Liner

The Fischer RC4 Pro MV are the first boots on the market to offer ZipFit liners out of the box – a trusted liner for the hardest skiers around. The ZipFit liner offers an unparalleled fit with the lacing system and adds at least 10 flex points of stiffness to the boot.

BOA System

Next we have the BOA System. When I first saw the BOA element on the boot I was a little skeptical. After trying it out I was sold. What is so unique about the BOA tightening system is the surface area it’s able to tighten. Typical toe straps only effectively tighten the boot around your foot – great for losing feeling in your toes but not great for extra power transfer. The BOA system is able to tighten the boot around your ankle – the most difficult yet most important place to have a snug fit. Because of this unique system this boot truly delivers a 140 flex, a tall order.

140 Flex

Few non-competition boots can offer a true 140 Flex. Flex is the level of resistance the ski boot provides when you bend your ankle forward. A higher number offers greater resistance and in turn increases power transfer from your legs to your skis. Because of the unparalleled fit discussed above and the Phatt Maxx Strap the Fischer RC4 Pro MV BOA deliver a 140 flex.

Back to Aggressive Skiing

I tested these boots in all sorts of terrain from park to groomers and I attest to stiffness. I found this boot most suitable for hard carving and all mountain skiing. The 140 flex isn’t ideal for disciplines like urban and park skiing. This flex is also made for the most aggressive skiers on the mountain. If you’re just getting into skiing or like relaxed resort days these boots are not for you. 140 flex is unforgiving for softer skiers and will only take away from your experience. If you’re a hard charging skier who demands performance, there is not a better boot on the market.

Material and Design

The Fischer RC4 Pro MV are constructed from world class materials. The shell is constructed from thermoshape polyurethane (TPU) – the same material used for top race boots around the world. The cuff is reinforced with carbon fused fiber for ultimate stiffness and maximum performance.

The Fischer RC4 Pro MV also comes with a GripWalk sole. This allows for a much better walking and grip performance and in my experience is much more durable than the typical hard plastic sole. In addition to grip walk RC4 Pro MV has Phatt Maxx straps, RD20 race canting, and grindable boot board for ultimate customization and performance.

Fischer RC4 Pro MV BOA Ski Boots Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Unparalleled fit with ZipFit liners
  • BOA System for optimal ankle tightening
  • World-class materials for ultimate performance

Cons:

  • Not suitable for softer skiers
  • 140 flex may be too stiff for some

Plain and simple the Fischer RC4 Pro MV BOA ($1,099.99) are the best non-competition ski boots on the market. This however does not mean they are the best for everybody. The stiff flex and aggressive design is for demanding skiers looking for a performance machine. If you’re new to skiing or looking for a laid back day on the slopes this boot is not for you.
