Dragon & Rob Machado Team Up On a Pair of Polarized Sunglasses

Dragon has been crafting sunglasses for over thirty years, so it is no surprise that they have perfected the balance between style and function.  I recently had the pleasure of field testing the Dragon Meridien Rob Machado Resin Polarized glasses and can confidently say they lived up to the hype. If these glasses are good enough for pro surfer Rob Marchado they’re certainly good enough for me!

I was immediately struck by the subtly psychedelic pattern swirled into a classic frame design. The rounded square lenses provide a modern look and the blue and yellow injection molded resin (plant based!) adds a quiet touch of eco-conscious flare.  The lenses themselves are crystal clear and the overall build seems durable enough to handle everything from a casual hike to a full-on expedition.

The Dragon Meridiens arrived just in time for summer in the Tetons – a fast and furious season known for an almost overwhelming amount of activities and adventures to enjoy.  From mountain-top concerts to long river days, alpine climbs to trail runs, Northwest Wyoming provided the ideal proving ground for a new pair of shades.

Over the past two weeks, I put these sunglasses through their paces across every imaginable setting—active days in the wild and laid-back evenings in town. And after all that? I have zero complaints.

The frame fit snugly without any pressure points, staying secure whether I was on the move or just lounging in the sun. The brown-tinted polarized Lumalens did an excellent job cutting glare on the water, while the 100% UV protection was a must-have for the intense sun of a high alpine environment.

While I haven’t crash-tested them (thankfully), their lightweight yet solid construction inspires plenty of confidence.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Exceptionally comfortable
  • Top-notch lenses: clear, glare-cutting, and protective
  • Versatile, stylish design that works for adventure, events, and relaxation

Cons:

  • On the pricier side

Overall Thoughts

Full disclosure: I own a lot of sunglasses. Years of losing them led to years of replacing them—until I finally figured out how to keep better track of this essential piece of gear. Now I have enough pairs to outfit a small army.

And yet, despite the competition in my collection, Dragon’s Meridien Rob Machado Resin Polarized ($190.00) has become my go-to. They’re comfortable, durable, and look fantastic—whether I’m at the river, on the trail, or attending a casual summer event.

Dragon knocked it out of the park with these. But with their history and track record, should we really be surprised?
