It is with broken hearts that we have to report that 29 year old splitboard Liz Daley was caught and killed in an avalanche near El Chaltén, Argentina. Daley, an accomplished backcountry snowboarder, climber and AMGA certified guide was in the midst of scoring all time conditions in Patagonia when the avalanche occurred. It was just two days ago that she posted the following to her Instagram account:

Liz had been showing the ski and snowboard industry just how rad a female backcountry snowboarder could be over the past few years. She grew up riding Mt. Baker and then spent 5 years on and off learning the ropes in the big mountains around Chamonix.

Her sponsors include Jones Snowboards, Eddie Bauer, Karakoram, Petzl and Julbo.
