As a photographer, my truck is basically a gear room on wheels, and DECKED has completely changed how I stay organized out in the field. Cameras, lenses, batteries, tools, straps, camping gear, and recovery equipment all have a dedicated place. Instead of digging through cases or piles of gear, I know exactly where everything is.

Storage Without Sacrificing Truck Bed Space

What immediately stood out to me was how much usable storage it adds without sacrificing the functionality of the truck bed. The drawer with its selective bins keeps everything organized, accessible, and secure, while the top deck still gives me a full truck bed for hauling cases, coolers, camping gear, and production equipment.

What I appreciate most is that the bins make the drawer system feel customizable. Instead of one large storage space where gear gets mixed together, everything is compartmentalized and easy to find.

Whether I’m heading out on a commercial production, a road trip through the Tetons, or a weekend camping trip, I know exactly where every piece of gear lives.

During the winter months I’ll likely pair it with a truck topper, turning the entire bed into a secure gear vault for camera equipment, ski gear, recovery equipment, and camping essentials.

The build quality is exceptional. The textured, grippy deck surface feels incredibly rugged. Whether I’m standing on it to shoot a different angle or throwing heavy cases in the back, it feels bombproof.

Thoughtful Features for Working Professionals

One feature I didn’t realize I’d appreciate so much is how the drawers lock into place when fully extended. When you’re parked on uneven terrain in the mountains or setting up for a shoot, having the drawer stay put while you grab gear is a small detail that makes a huge difference.

I also love the side storage compartments. They’re perfect for tools, straps, and smaller gear, but I’ve even used them as coolers on shoots and camping trips. Toss in some ice and drinks, and you’ve got a built-in cooler without taking up any extra space in the truck.

A Mobile Camera Workstation

One of my favorite unexpected features is the drawer system itself. The bottom of the drawers has a padded surface that works perfectly as a camera mat when I’m out shooting. Whether I’m swapping lenses, building a camera, or setting gear down in dusty conditions, it gives me a clean, protected workspace right out of the truck.

When it’s time to leave the vehicle and head into the field, many photographers typically transfer the camera gear they need into a Peak Design Everyday Backpack. The combination of organized truck storage and a dedicated camera pack makes it easy to move between roadside locations, trailheads, and photography assignments without leaving equipment behind.

Final Thoughts

For me, the biggest benefit is organization. Whether I’m heading out for a commercial production, a road trip through the Tetons, or a weekend of camping, everything has its place. My gear stays protected, the truck stays clean, and I spend less time searching for equipment and more time focusing on the job.

It’s rare that a product becomes part of your everyday workflow, but DECKED has done exactly that. It doesn’t just add storage, it makes the truck more functional in unexpected ways.
