Hydaway Collapsible Backpack Review

The Hydaway Backpack is a collapsible, light-weight pack ideal for almost everything I do. Besides coaching and personal training, I am a swimmer, runner and skateboarder and I always need a bag. My Hydaway Backpack review will show you exactly how I used the bag in the city, outdoors and even in the gym. There were so many features that stood out as I tested the Hydaway Backpack in my daily routine and outdoor getaways.

For starters I’d like to mention the love-at-first-sight graphic on the back. The image reflects Arizona’s sunset orange, purple hues and sunset tones. If that’s not your thing, you may be interested to know the Hydaway Backpack is available in four different prints. Each offering a unique image that reflects your favorite outdoor image. Choose from tropical, snow capped peaks or running rivers and mountains.

Working as a writer on the road, I almost always have my computer, tablet and smartphone with me. That’s why the Hydaway Backpack with laptop compartment is ideal for me. Made to cradle all my tech, the pockets are inside and outside to stash everything securely. Camping and hiking supplies are not always made to take your tech with you. However, one of the most notable features of the Hydaway Backpack it’s the storage compartments. Made for tech with: 1 large zippered top pocket, two oversized stretchy side bottle pockets, and hydration pocket that doubles as a laptop sleeve.

Usage & Durability

Finding ultra light camping gear is not always easy. I noticed almost immediately that the Hydaway Backpack is different. This small lightweight backpack for walking, skating, city or backwoods running never weighs me down. Made to fit in a stuff sack the size of my wallet, it’s probably the best hiking backpack I’ve found to do double-duty in the city. Now, it meets my camping needs too as it packs my tech in almost every pocket with added security. The pack is literally so light I hardly noticed it however, it was always secured to my body. Stashing it away is easy to do as it collapses into a sack and clips onto a belt loop with a carabiner.

Sustainability

Using sustainably sourced products is always ideal but not always possible. Working against single-use plastic waste, the Hydaway Backpack is made with recycled materials so that my footprints never leave a mark on the planet. Say “Goodbye,” to single use everything and take a step to wipe your carbon footprint clean. The Hydaway Backpack is part of the solution to end the plastic pandemic. One sustainable backpack at a time.

Performance

With the Hydaway Backpack, there’s no sacrificing performance for sustainability. The roots of HYDAWAY products run deep in Oregon where the brand was created. My Hydaway Backpack review comes to life through outdoor testing in the city and backroads alike. Each adventure had twists and turns of their own but that simply made it more clear to see that the Hydaway Backpack was more comfortable, and more versatile. Able to meet every need in a range of situations, I simply replaced my other backpack with the Hydaway.

The chest strap ensures my tech doesn’t get tossed around as I ride or run. As this is the same size as my regular backpack, I didn’t have to leave anything behind. Its fully adjustable padded shoulder straps are a perfect fit every time. Made from 100% post consumer recycled plastic bottles, you’d never guess it would be so durable and so light-weight at the same time.

Hydaway Collapsible Backpack Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Eye-catching design inspired by Arizona’s sunset hues
  • Ideal for tech with laptop compartment and multiple storage pockets
  • Lightweight, collapsible, and durable for various activities
  • Sustainably made from recycled materials
  • Comfortable, versatile, and performance-driven

Cons:

  • Limited color/print options available
  • No mention of water resistance

At first, I wasn’t sure the Hydaway Backpack ($49.95) would even stand up to any of the tasks I’d planned for the bag. It was so light-weight I thought the bag seemed flimsy. I hesitated to pack it heavy until I started using it and then I realized it was more durable than it looked. After reading the HYDAWAY mission, I came to the conclusion, this may be the best hiking backpack because even the straps, buckles, and carabiner are made from recycled materials. If you have a conscience for the mountain equipment you use I highly recommend you peep the bag yourself.
