woom Kids Bike OFF Air 5 Review

There Is some gear that is a big step up in terms of tech and your ability. For me that was the woom OFF Air Mountain Bike. When I opened the box I was so excited to build it and ride it on some trails. It was so powerful when you rode it on grass and on gravel it felt the same. The shocks where so nice that going over big rocks felt like you were on a paved rode. It is one of the nicest bikes I have ever owned.

My son’s been riding on two wheels for a couple years now. With all the great trails around here, he’s been itching to get more serious about his riding and needed a bike that could handle it, but that he could also handle.

The woom OFF Air 5 is a 24” bike, perfect for my 9-year-old son who’s 4 foot 7 inches tall and weighs about 70 pounds. The bike has the Off Air suspension fork, with some serious absorption and an easy-to-use lock toggle. The disc brakes are perfect for him to dial in his speed in more techy parts of the trail, when learning how to make banked turns and when it’s time for full-speed steep straightlines.

The seat’s biometric to make it perfect for a kid while the handlebars can be flipped for extra adjustment. Speaking of the handlebars, they incorporate a trigger shifter, making it easy for any kid to really get their gears dialed. Especially important since the SRAM X5 system has 9 gears that the woom OFF Air can shift really smoothly through.

Weight

But what I really loved? All this ruggedness and high performance comes in a bike that, thanks to its superlight aluminum frame and hydroformed tubes, weighs in at only 23.3 pounds. Which means no more dragging my kid’s bike and mine up tough climbs. My son can even pick it up himself.

To start, I thought it would be hard to assemble but since it’s sent with the correct tools I was riding the woom OFF Air in front of my house in 30 min. Switching gears was so easy that I could do it in a split second, and it was really smooth. When I rode the woom OFF Air with the shocks it felt like I was floating. When I rode it without the shocks it was a little bumpy but it still handled great and went really fast on smooth surfaces. Like, really fast.

When I rode the woom OFF Air on the trails I was scared at first since it’s so big and fast. But when I started to get speed it was so smooth with the shocks on I just wanted to go faster. It really responded good to turning and braking or speeding up and especially on banks.  When I went off a jump with a little more speed then I thought, the woom OFF Air absorbed my landing and I stuck it.

It’s a super cool bike. I rode that trail the best I’ve ever rode that trail. When it got too steep for me, I had no problem pushing it because it’s an Air – that’s there name for their super light bikes. I could push it, pick it up, and even carry it really easily.

Pros:

• May be bumpy without shocks
• Big and fast, may be intimidating
• Price may be considered high

Overall Impression

This year has been a year of growth for me. I started skiing of cliffs climbing big mountains so it was time to get a really nice bike. Since woom’s OFF Air 5 ($999.00) handles so good I was able to go on more difficult trails. It felt like I was flying when I rode it, at high speed and more power than any bike I’ve ever had. And with the black and silver, it looks like a really cool, drippy powerful fun tool.

If your child is ready to take a big jump in mountain biking, get them a woom OFF Air and watch the magic happen.
