The Smith Squad MAG Goggle has become synonymous with being a true workhorse goggle for amateurs and professionals alike. The Squad MAG features quick yet secure magnetic lens exchange, a wide selection of replacement lenses, fun designs, and no unnecessary frills.

I’ve owned a few pairs of Squad goggles over the years, but this was my first experience with a magnetic lens system. I was stoked on how easy lens swaps were, making it simple to adapt as conditions changed throughout the day. I experienced no issues with the lenses prematurely releasing—even after a few gnarly diggers. The Squad MAG is a classic in the industry for a reason.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Smith Optics continues to lead as a premier legacy brand, building on six decades of pioneering innovation in high-performance eyewear and protection.

As a trusted, long-term partner to the outdoor community, the company remains dedicated to its heritage of quality and technical excellence, ensuring athletes and enthusiasts alike see every adventure with unmatched clarity.

Lenses

Smith’s ChromaPop™ lens technology is world-renowned for delivering clear vision and enhanced contrast. The Squad MAG comes standard with both a ChromaPop™ bright-light lens and a ChromaPop™ low-light lens, so whether you’re ripping spring groomers under bluebird skies or chasing powder on a storm day, this setup has you covered.

Anyone who’s spent time in the mountains has encountered the dreaded goggle fog—where wiping moisture away only makes things worse. Luckily, the Squad MAG features a 5X anti-fog inner lens and built-in Airflow technology to keep air moving and moisture at bay. Even after snow found its way inside the lens during a fall, a quick shake-out was all it took to prevent lingering fog.

My favorite feature of these goggles is the magnetic lens system. The lenses stay locked in place through rough tumbles yet are incredibly easy to remove when it’s time to swap. I often take the lenses out after a long day on the hill to speed up the drying process, which is a nice bonus.

Fit & Style

The Squad MAG offers a Medium/Large fit, with select models available in a Low Bridge fit. I found the fit to be excellent, sealing well against my face and keeping cold smoke out during repeated white-room laps. The three-layer DriWix foam manages moisture effectively while providing a comfortable interface between the goggles and skin.

The strap is wide, easy to adjust, and includes dual silicone lines that prevent slipping—whether worn over a helmet or a beanie. Smith also offers a wide range of styles and colorways for the Squad MAG, ensuring there’s something for everyone’s snow steeze. I’ve been pairing these ski & snowboard goggles with the Smith Method Pro helmet this season, and the fit has been seamless.

Baxter has spent the past half decade in pursuit of climbing cliffs in the summer and hucking off of them come winter. He chased summers guiding on glaciers in Alaska and New Zealand since 2019, but has now decided to settle down a bit and call his winter home in the Tetons his full time home. His outdoor disciplines include skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, ice climbing and canyoning. Can also roll a mean burrito.
