The Nidecker Kita Hybrid is a power-driving, ankle saving sleek and powerful boot. I’m talking locks in the foot, disperses every flex to your board, and helps you boot up the pack with the strength of somebody who never skips leg day. That is to say it’s a super-boot. Made for hard shredding and exploration like only a super boot can. So let’s take the Kita Hybrid for a spin. See how the latest snowboard boot rankings compare to this pair.

We spent months testing this boot in the Jackson Hole backcountry. See how it stacks up against the competition in our current guide to the best splitboard boots on the market.

Features

From the moment I first rode with a BOA I loved it. But for my backcountry boot, I started to fall in love with a BOA hybrid, letting you tie it tight over the shin and ratchet it down on the ankle and forefoot. This makes the Kita Hybrid a boot with a super snug fit but adjustable upper for when you need a little more breathing room or like it looser on the boot up. Their internal Heel Lock really keeps your foot in for the up and the down.

Stiffness

There’s an ArmorTech TPU shield on the front for kicking in steps, connecting to the outer that’s locked to the Exo Spine for some hardcore strength and power distribution all over the boot. That’s why the Kita Hybrid delivers industry-dominating stiffness for your power riders. This connects down to the Vibram Approach soles not only letting you get traction both while hiking up and tromping around the apres, but they also combine with the triple-density EVA footbeds for some bone-soothing cushioning.

Which brings in the Gold-Level liner, made to wrap your foot like a glove and a unique off-angle closure system to get your foot in from the front and side. This means you can sneak it into the boot and then really lock it up.

Nidecker’s Kita Hybrid is a total miracle of heel-lock and performance, of lightness and performance, of beauty and ruggedness. Nidecker’s Kita Hybrid is my favorite new game-changer. Which is exactly what I need this winter.

Boot Performance

I broke my ankle last winter, and besides missing a historic powder cycle I’ve been rehabbing my ankle ever since, with my first laps this year a great test of the ankle. But after years of reviewing gear, I also knew which boot I needed for the extra support and stability this year.  So it was tough the first few laps but it locked in my ankle like it was the Sticky Bandits on Christmas Day. Every turn was smooth (though I had to play with the insole for a few beats to figure out how to really get it tight).

When I went touring a few days later the boot felt lighter than about anything else I’ve used other than some Northwave I ran through in about 2 weeks in 2006 (and that wasn’t strong, it was just light and cheap). My lack of confidence on the down was destroyed by the control and comfort as I dodged the early season shark fins.

I then spent a few days tackling groomers and early season sidepow at Grand Targhee Resort. It was the first day properly riding since I cracked the tibia and I felt weak, cautious. Still, the Kita Hybrid gave me confidence, and the power I’d been redeveloping for months was transferred to the board smoothly and efficiently, a task for only the best boots. Even more important, the Kita it locked my ankle in without feeling suffocating. After 10 months of pow dreams, this boot led me to a true rebirth.

Nidecker Kita Snowboard Boots Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Super snug fit with adjustable upper
  • Industry-dominating stiffness for power riders
  • Support and stability for ankle protection

Cons:

  • May require some adjustment for perfect fit
  • Priced at $349.95 may be steep for some
  • May feel stiff for beginner riders

Nidecker Kita Hybrid: Support and Power in a Sleek Shell. The Nidecker Kita Hybrid has the smooth outer styling of a legendary warrior’s boot, from the faint patterning on the outer to the camo on the sole. It’s enough to make Achilles envious as he shreds through pow like he does his enemies. They’re strong but light; powerful but responsive.
