Black Diamond Stance Belay Insulated Pants Review
I love Winter. Skiing, Ice Climbing, not having to pick up dog poop are all great. But, there’s something special about being warm and cozy while breathing subzero air. The Black Diamond Stance Belay Pants are great for staying warm in the deep freeze.
Insulated Pants
Whether you’re belaying an ice climb, hanging out at camp after the sun goes down or walking the dogs, the Primaloft in these pants keep you nice and cozy. They have full-length zippers, which make them easy for me to slide on/off over my ski boots, climbing boots and of course tennies. Cuff guards of tough nylon keep them looking nice and fend off the crampon teeth.. They also have some waterproofing, though that means these pants aren’t very compressible, which makes them not ideal as an emergency layer. However, the warmth and convenience of entry still make them worth taking up space in your pack, especially if you’ll be doing any ice climbing, pit-digging, or getting after it on arctic mornings.

Durability
I haven’t put these through the ringer yet but I have beaten on them a little. The stitching seems bomber and the exterior can handle some abuse. The fit of these pants are really comfortable and functional. The belt works well and is fully adjustable. Don’t bother sizing up, these pants are designed to go over your gear – when you need leg warmth, you’re not going to want to change out of your drawers. I wear a size large and my first impression was they looked big; however, they fit great over my shell pants and long underwear.
