When looking for the next jacket to review a few testers tried REI’s Stromhenge 850 Down Jacket on and I was the only one who could get it fit correctly. I am 5’9 longer torso short legs about 185lbs. So yes, short and stocky. This jacket fits me very well, with that being said I wouldn’t recommend it for the lengthy fella unless you plan to size up.
REI Stromhenge 850 2-Layer Waterproofing
I used this jacket for a night out on the town, looks the part for sure. After noticing the taped seams I decided to get on REI’s website and look into the tech specs. This REI Down Jacket is more gearhead then fluff. All the tech to make it a a warm stand alone down jacket for cold days or that puffy you can bunch up easily and store inside you backpack for those big days in the backcountry splitboarding or skiing. Or even just to have in your car winter emergency kit.
REI thought of everything here, 2-layer waterproofing even the down was treated with DWR you’re sure to stay dry. And with 850 Goose down and a insulated 3 way hood you’re sure to stay warm.
If cooling off is your thing then the pit zip feature is the answer for you. So far I have been able to wear the Men’s REI Stromhenge 850 Down Jacket inside a warm restaurant and walk around on the snowy streets of Jackson Hole while feeling comfortable in both conditions. The perfect temperature regulation indoors and out.
For $249 MSRP the REI Stromhenge 850 Down Jacket is an easy purchase. REI currently has it on their site for $148.99 which I would not miss out on this deal. Look for me in 5 years with duct tape patches on this bad boy cause its staying in the quiver.
