Glerup’s makes Slip-ons that all men will love no matter whether they’re looking for a pair to wear on the backporch or at one of Hef’s legendary parties. Unlike other slippers, Glerup’s Slip Ons are made of simple materials, a basic construction that speaks to age-old quality in craftsmanship and appreciation for doing things right. I’ve been all-but living in these Slip-ons ever since the temps dropped and they’ve become my everything. But what are Glerup’s Slip Ons?

To start, when you get your Glerup’s Slip Ons you might be very surprised with how thick wool can be. These slippers are about a third of an inch thick and super stable, both of which seem impossible for wool. But these folks at Glerup’s know their stuff. The wool is oh so soft on your feet. But also stable and thick. It’s an eye-opening thing for people who haven’t explored the world of natural fibers but the comfort and stability of Glerup’s is ridiculous. Yes, they’re stiff enough to stand up. But also they’re malleable enough to start molding to your feet from day one. I’ve felt that ever since I started wearing the Glerup’s Slip Ons and now they match my every step.

Glerups Leather Sole

Glerup’s has a leather sole to keep on the theme of organic footwear. These slipons are something like magic on your feet, made with materials stiff enough not to lose their shape completely but giving enough to shape themselves around your foot. Every time I put them on, the Glerup’s Slipons slide on without issue. But when I head them outside in the snow the leather soles and the wool sides kept me well protected. I’ve always been more of a synthetics dude but it’s mind-blowing how warm and dry natural materials like leather and wool keep you.

I also was admittedly nervous about walking in the snow in the leather soles, imagining myself slipping like a drunk on a banana peel but it still held pretty well. Even more, the leather soles are sublime around the house. Super comfortable and my Glerup’s Slip Ons are the only footwear I can stomp around in atop my hardwood floors without waking my girlfriend up. They ‘re also offered via a similar style in the Gelurps Slip On Rubber Slipper ($135.00) but the quietness of the leather is worth its weight in gold for keeping the peace.

This is a story of family and innovation. Danish Nanny Glerup took a felting class and made a pair of woolen boots for her husband Ove that he loved and wore everywhere. That was the ‘70s; in the ‘80s they bought a farm in Jutland to raise sheep to make more. In the ‘90s Nanny Glerup’s was making these boots for family and friends and started the company, buying a carding machine from the 1930s to increase capacity. In the 2000’s Nanny Glerup’s moved to a production overseer role, making sure this growing company keeps churning out the same quality as she did, and it continued into their new factory in Romania. In the 2010s they expanded to America with the same attention to craftsmanship and heritage that had made the boots from day 1. And now they’re sold all over the world. This is a story of love and craftsmanship that reaches back for decades to make a slipper you can’t help but love from the first second that they land on your feet.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  1. Exceptional Comfort and Warmth: The slippers are described as “magic” due to their exceptional comfort and warmth. The thick wool provides a soft, stable, and supportive feel, molding to the wearer’s feet over time. The materials also provide warmth and dryness, even in snow.

  2. High-Quality Craftsmanship & Durability: The text emphasizes the “age-old quality in craftsmanship” and “doing things right,” showcasing a commitment to producing durable, long-lasting slippers. The use of natural materials and a rich history of family production suggests a high quality and a product that lasts for years.

Cons:

  1. Leather Sole Slippery in Certain Conditions: The leather sole, while quiet on hard floors, can be a concern for those expecting more grip. Although the reviewer was surprised the sole did not slip in the snow, there was still a concern.

  2. Price: Although the price is not mentioned as a con the article mentions a rubber sole version of the shoe is $135.00 and therefore you can gather the leather sole version is similarly priced. This may be a drawback to some.
