Performance & Features Fit & Comfort

One of the standout features of the Shift Split Mag is their iconic, sleek design, which looks great whether you’re on the trails, cycling, or just enjoying a casual day out. I found the lightweight frame ensures a snug, comfortable fit without causing pressure points, even after hours of wear. The adjustable nosepiece and secure grip on the arms make these sunglasses stable, staying put through those bumpy downhill rides. These glasses are also compatible with Smith helmets ensuring a fuss-free ride.

Lens Options & Technology

The lens quality is where the Smith Shift Split Mag really shines. I went with the Red Mirror Lens – that comes with an additional clear lens – and I couldn’t be happier. Equipped with photochromic technology, the lens seamlessly adapts to changing light conditions, offering the perfect amount of tint whether you’re in bright sunlight or shaded areas. The signature ChromaPop technology enhances contrast and natural color for a clearer view.

Magnetic Lens Change System

The “Mag” part of the name refers to the innovative magnetic lens changing system… or rather arm changing system? The arms simply pop off the current lens and pop on to the new one.

Nose Piece

Simply add the nose piece and you’re done. No more mucking up the entire lens trying to jam it into the frame. This is perfect for those of us who head out before sunrise or get back after sunset and want a clear frame option.

Durability

The Shift Split Mags are constructed from high impact resistant TR90 nylon and seemed quite durable upon inspection. The hinge design which clips on and off during lens interchanges also seamed sturdy and capable of many swaps. I’m excited to push these frames to the limit.

Smith Shift Split Mag Cycling Sunglasses Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Photochromic lenses adapt to light conditions
  • Quick and easy magnetic lens swap system
  • Comfortable, secure fit for active wear

Cons:

  • Price point may be high for some
  • The signature Smith has larger face coverage than other sunglasses

Verdict

The Smith Shift Split Mag Sunglasses ($275.00) are a fantastic investment for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who value performance, versatility, and aesthetics. Their adaptable lenses, durable construction, and comfortable fit make them a reliable companion for any adventure. While they may be on the pricier side, the quality and convenience they provide are well worth the cost.
