I have been fishing my whole entire life, almost all 9 years. When I got the Tenkara White Cloud it encouraged me to go fishing more and to get a taller regular fly rod. I think the Tenkara White Cloud needs skill to use but it doesn’t mean it isn’t a good rod. For me, it wsas kind of a game-changer. I really like to use the Tenkara White Cloud because it is so simple and quick and portable but also really helps me improve as a fisherman. And it looks really cool.

The Entire Tenkara White Cloud Kit | Photo Ryan Ariano Mountain Weekly News

by Ryan Ariano (Jackson’s Dad)

This is a kid’s rod but to be sure, this is for kids who know how to fly fish. To start, it’s 8 feet long, with an 8-foot furled Tenkara line standard. On the other hand, the weight is only 2 ounces so they can take it deep into the middle of nowhere no matter how strong. The rod is made of carbon fiber, the tip is definitely thin enough you gotta be careful and then there’s the interesting slipknot connector to the leader.

The kit comes with the rod, a beautiful rod sock, a white rod holder, a couple flies and a handle length of a little over 10 inches. It can catch fish 6-12 inches and packs down to 18 inches so some serious adventure fishing and the small-fish runs where kids really refine their technique is perfect for the Tenkara White Cloud. But how did it work out for Jackson?

When I first opened the box I was so excited to build the White Cloud. Turns out there wasn’t much to build. I just had to find out how to attach the leader line to the little red string on the end of the rod. When I was done setting up the Tenkara, we went fishing. The White Cloud  is good for fishing creeks and rivers. Even more when you’re carrying it, The Tenkara White Cloud really looks so cool out of the box. White case. Cool wooden line holder. Simple and smooth rod. Plus it has its own flies.

Boy Throwing Fishing Rod

When I first went fishing with the Tenkara white cloud it felt like a cloud. Light but flexible. It had some of the best control that I have ever had on a fishing rod. When you are putting on the fishing line, make sure that it is attached tight because I did not tie it tight enough and I lost my line.

Inventory currently unavailable at our partner retailers.

My dad suggests you order an extra Tenkara Furled Line and even an extra tip since they’re so small and can break. After some practice, and a new line, I made sure to practice and now I can string this and get it ready to fish super quick. It’s great for keeping in my backpack to try to throw out a few casts when I go on big adventures.

Tenkara Rod Co. White Cloud Kids Fly Rod Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Encourages more fishing with simple design
  • Portable and quick setup for adventures
  • Lightweight and flexible with excellent control

Cons:

  • Requires skill to use effectively
  • Extra care needed for thin tip

The Tenkara White Cloud for your Pup to Reach to the Sky.

Stepping into the Tenkara White Cloud has been an amazing experience for my fishing career. I really like how light it was for traveling, how much it responds to my moves, how it showed me I could step up to a real rod for my reeled one. This rod is great for fishing small rivers, creeks, shallow ponds, and especially for when I backpack. Overall the White Cloud reaches to the sky where it’s taking my fishing skills.

It also stands out as excellent beginner fly fishing gear for younger anglers learning rivers and creeks.

Families wanting a more traditional fly casting experience should compare the White Cloud against the Redington CRUX Fly Rod. Older kids interested in lightweight backpacking setups may also enjoy the Tenkara Yari Rod.
