As yet another storm cleared, unveiling a sunny evening in the Tetons, I seized the opportunity to take the Denago Cruiser 1 Top-Tube EBike for a test-ride. This bike offers all the features of high-end e-bikes, yet rings in at half the cost. While it may not be a speed demon, it delivers on numerous other fronts.
Design & Style
The Cruiser 1 is classic in both design and feel; the frame boasts clean lines and sports stylish fenders and high-rise handlebars for a more traditional look.
That being said, the high-rise handlebars took a second to get used to. I typically ride road/mountain bikes and I was initially thrown off by the elevated position and downward curve of the handlebars. However, I grew to appreciate the laid-back feel associated with riding in an upright position after spending some time on the bike.
Denago Cruiser Frame Sizes
This Denago E-Bike comes in a one-size option – suitable for riders ranging from 5’4” to 6’3”. At 6’1”, the fit was comfortable for me. Though if you measure in at the shorter end I would not recommend this purchase (reaching the handlebars would be quite the stretch).
Motor and Battery
The Shengyi 350 Watt rear hub motor allows users to take advantage of a variety of terrain and conditions. A 36V, 10.2A (367.2Wh) Lithium-Ion battery supplies power to the motor, and is colored to match the sleek frame. With security in mind, the battery can be locked into the frame and a key is provided. The battery is built with premium LG cells which helps ensure maximum riding distance, and allows users to cruise for over 30 miles of assisted fun. A 3 AMP charger is also included in the purchase price.
Denago Cruiser Pedal Assist and Throttle Modes
The pedal assist feature on the Denago Cruiser Model 1 boosts riders to speeds ranging from 8 to 20 mph. Without pedaling at all the twist-throttle will carry you to speeds up to 20 mph. I noticed a slight lag in response time when testing out the various speeds. This lag may not be an issue for cruising a beach bike path, but could be a nuisance if a user were to ride in a location where responsiveness is a necessity. Note: as a safety feature, the throttle will only work once a rider exceeds 1.8 mph/ 3 kph.
Denago Cruiser Display
I found the digital display screen on the Denago Cruiser Model 1 bright and easy to read. Both information concerning user speed, battery levels and the ability to control pedal assist levels are available on the digital display located on the handle bars.
