With the recent explosion of backcountry skiing and riding, it’s easy to forget that self reliance is essential. Colder temperatures and the absence of ski patrol are two reasons to not forget the first aid kit on winter adventures. After receiving My Medic’s MyFAK Mini Pro kit I was able to review the features and supplies. One thing is for certain… My Medic has created a fully-stocked first aid kit ready to tackle most emergencies or accidents.

Lightweight Packability

Traveling light and fast is paramount to being efficient and staying safe; with this in mind, I was initially skeptical of packing a full-fledged first aid kit in my touring pack. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the lightweight feel and compact design of My Medic’s MyFAK Mini Pro kit. The kit weighs in at 2.5 pounds and is thoughtfully packed into a compact backpack with dimensions of 8.5” by 6” by 2.7”.

The MyFAK Mini Pro also makes it easy to customize your kit. If I’m trying to go light for example, I might leave the chest seals at home and use the extra space for other essentials.

Organization

My Medic’s MyFAK Mini Pro offers users over 75 different supplies including bandages, gauze pads, emergency pressure bandages, a NPA 28 Airway Med Pack, water purification tablets, chest seals, and a NPA 28 Airway Med Pack.

To make it easier to locate the supplies, My Medic has gone the distance and has organized these materials by color – each color corresponds to a different category of injury: Bleed, Burn, Sports, Medication, Topical, Airway (a feature specific to the PRO kit), Hydration, Sprain & Fracture and Tools/devices.

Transportability

Since My Medic’s MyFAK Mini Pro is small in dimensions, I am easily able to fit in my larger backpack. However, the kit comes in a backpack of its own which makes it easy to grab and go in case of an emergency. It is also MOLLE compatible meaning that it is compatible with other MOLLE gear used in the U.S. Military.

Weather Resistant

It’s probably not surprising that the  MyFAK Mini Pro is also extremely durable. The kit is organized in a heavy-duty nylon bag and each item is packaged to withstand the elements. I appreciate this attention to detail as I intend to bring it along in inclement weather.

My Medic MyFAK Mini Pro First Aid Kit Pros & Cons

  • Lightweight and compact design
  • Customizable and well-organized
  • Transportable and weather-resistant
