The 686 Athena Jacket is perfect for spring temperatures. It features lightly insulated body mapping with mesh vents so it kept me warm in the cool morning (approximately 25 – 30 degrees). It warmed up in the afternoon (almost 50 degrees), and I was comfortable after I opened up the vents. True to size, it fits a base layer and a hoodie or fleece. If I were to use it year-round to add an insulated layer during colder months, I would go one size up.

The length of the jacket is perfect. It’s long enough so your back is not exposed when strapping in, laying down carves, or anytime bending down. But it’s not too long to comprise the fit to where it looks big and baggy.

The 686 Athena Jacket has a mesh pocket on the inside to hold your buff or goggles, a phone pocket on the inside with a slot for headphones (bonus: headphone loops inside the jacket to keep the wires in place), a pocket in the front of the jacket for your pass and/or keys, and deep zip up hand pockets to keep snacks or whatever you need.

It also has a powder skirt. The hood fits over a helmet and does not limit your peripheral vision or restrict movement when you turn your head.

686 Women’s Athena Insulated Jacket Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Lightly insulated with mesh vents for varied temperatures
  • Perfect length for coverage and mobility
  • Functional features like pockets, headphone slot, and powder skirt

Cons:

  • Not suitable for very cold temperatures
  • May need to size up for layering
