Etnies Jefferson MTW Shoes Review
Why did Etnies jump into snow, dropping their fire Jefferson MTW Shoes?
I’d say it’s for one simple reason: that just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look steezy. They took their classic Jefferson Mid, winterized it, and dropped a snowboot skate shoe you can wear on the trail, at the apres and into the club. Like I’ve been doing all this winter.
Etnies Jefferson MTW’s Tech

So your normal canvas or leather skate shoes may be part of your drip but they’ll fall apart in a place like Jackson Hole. So Etnies started with Repel Technology on its synthetic suede body. But waterproofness is just the start. Throw in a 3M Thinsulate inner to lock in the warmth. That gets amped up with the thermal heat retention aluminum stroble board, which is basically the thing under the insole that keeps it strong and protected from the bottom, tucked under the foam Lite 1 insole. Because the bottom is the real magic.
This outsole is beefy. It’s made of a healthy does of 440NBS rubber, a rubber known for being the strongest and sturdiest while still maintaining flexibility. Plus there are the lugs, fat grippy flat spikes that give unbeatable traction. So was stoked when I took the Etnies Jefferson MTW out for a few spins.
The Feel

I’ve always loved my winter skate shoes so when I lost them in a fire, I was brought out of my shock with a pair of Etnies Jefferson MTW shoes. They were super comfortable right out of the box, and I all but lived in them all winter. When I broke my ankle in March, it became extremely important that whatever shoe I work on my good foot was grippy; the footwear I trusted the most for this were my Etnies Jefferson MTW’s.
When summer came and I regained both feet, I still loved them. We had a wet summer, so even though I was starting to refill my closet canvas and leather wouldn’t cut it in rain and mud. “That’s my favorite outfit of yours anyway,” my girlfriend said when I wore the Jefferson MTW’s with jeans and a flannel.
I wore them on camping trips and out to the bar. When I went dancing, I could feel them grabbing, hear the squeaks of rubber on hardfloor. These shoes are locked in, gripping onto any rock, wood, or dirt even when my feet were wet, and muddy.
They also became my skate shoes so as my son and I got after it, my Etnies were gripping for my first pushes, carves, and olleys since breaking my old ankle a few months before. These foot-coverings delivered and hard.

Overall Impression

The Etnies Jefferson MTW ($99.99) give what you want and deliver what you need. Basically these shoes have been amazing year-round. They’ve done everything I wanted and delivered everything I’ve needed. They’ve dialed in my fit through the snow, through an ankle break, through a mad spring. Then they’ve performed the way a skate shoe should in the summer, while also giving me cover rolling around in the dirt on the trail or at the campsite.
Etnies have long made amazing skate shoes. But now that they’ve upped their winter game with these snow and rainproof Jefferson MTW’s, Etnies has declared that they’re ready to dominate the world of adventure style all year.
