Vuarnet sunglasses growing up in the 80s and 90s and clearly well before than have always been iconic. The French company designs some of not only the most stylish sunglass offerings but technically superior than most in the market. This particular style is no exception. The Ice Round are certainly an all around statement piece. I had the pleasure of testing them out for Mountain Weekly News across a multitude of conditions. Every step of the way I was continually impressed of the overall performance over changing and variable conditions.

I was fortunate enough to end up with the Crystal-Red frames with Grey Bluelynx lenses. The Grey Bluelynx lenses are extremely versatile shapeshifting all environments to optimize one’s vision over all conditions. The lenses integrates enhanced visual sensation, overall protection and most critically high definition vision.

Grey Bluelynx Lenses and Optical Clarity

With a category 3 Lens rating featuring 100% UV protection and 90% Infrared filtration along with visible light filtration and 93% filtration of harmful blue light you’re truly covered optically speaking. With the mineral glass lenses not only does one achieve optical clarity, but being shock proof and scratch proof one feels fully supported out in the field wearing these glasses.

This particular model from Vuarnet takes inspiration from their Glacial model. These feature fine tuned protection via the removable side shades. This factor was particularly useful while snow touring through the mountains on my splitboard to save my eyes over long days by lessening eye fatigue.

Comfort, Fit, and Functional Features

The bio-nylon frames feel super forgiving across one’s temples and skull, thus providing maximum comfort for the duration of wear. A small but telling detail is that the temples have adjustable hypoallergenic rubber end-tips offering another asset to the ongoing list of features and benefits.

The stainless steel spring hinges in the temple offer a great level of durability. Another nifty little detail is that the removable bridge insert can be kept in place or taken away pending one’s desired fit, style, or vibe.

These sunglasses are ideal for medium size faces with rectangular, square, or oval face shapes generally. I have a narrower face and really like how these frames sit and look on my face.

Vuarnet Ice Round vs Ice O1

Compared to the more angular and aggressive Ice O1, the Vuarnet Ice Round offers a softer, more vintage-inspired silhouette while maintaining the same alpine-ready DNA. Both sunglasses feature removable side shields, premium mineral glass lenses, and technical protection designed for harsh mountain environments, but the Ice Round leans further into timeless mountaineering style and everyday versatility. The rounded frame shape feels slightly more fashion-forward, whereas the Ice O1 delivers a sportier fit and more modern glacier-glass aesthetic.

Built for Snow, Water, and Alpine Adventures

I can’t speak highly enough of how Vuarnet was able to bridge the gap between function and fashion in this particular style. The removable side shields keeps the sun from bouncing in off the snow or water while simultaneously providing protection from debris such as rocks, twigs, and wind.

With all these adjustments one can truly accessorize based upon activity. The included case and cleaning cloth are a very nice addition to these sunglasses. Attached is a stylish paracord offering a greater level of security and stowing options.

Overall Impression on the Vuarnet Ice Round

In summary the Vuarnte Ice Round sunglasses stack up against all other competitors and come out swinging above the rest. I have tried out the Smith Venture’s and can honestly say when it comes to a glacial style sunglass, Vuarnet hits right on the mark.

The timeless style and exceptional quality always shines when it comes to anything Vuarnet. As a company it is clear to see how their values are intricately woven into the quality products they continue to produce decade after decade.

I would highly recommend these Sunglasses to anyone in the market for a superior glacial sunglass while at the same time offering a range of styles for one to express themselves with. Bravo on a job well done.
