Ever since hearing about Suunto’s athlete team and their commitment to sustainability I’ve been curious to try their watches. The Suunto 9 Peak Pro did not disappoint. The watch is Suunto’s best performing multisport watch yet.

With an upgraded processor and durable construction, this watch is built to withstand the toughest of conditions and challenges.

The first thing I noticed about the Suunto 9 Peak Pro is its stunning design. It features a sleek and stylish look with an extraordinarily low profile which is vastly different from other similar sized sports watches. Upon trying it on I was convinced I’d never seen another GPS watch like it. I was correct… along with it’s predecessors the Suunto 9 Peak Pro is the thinnest GPS multisport watch on the market. This makes the 9 Peak Pro incredibly lightweight and comfortable to wear; an ideal choice for long training sessions and outdoor adventures.

I found that the control buttons protruded the perfect amount and made an audible click when pressed which allowed me to operate the watch in gloves. Without gloves I found I preferred to use the snappy touch screen display… more on this below.

Touch Screen Display

The Suunto 9 Peak Pro comes with a high-resolution touch screen display that is easy to read even in bright sunlight. I was skeptical how helpful a touchscreen would be on a multisport watch especially with sweaty hands and variable conditions. I was pleasantly surprised by how snappy and responsive the touchscreen was and I quickly fell into the habit of using the touchscreen to navigate through features.

To ensure accurate training sessions the touchscreen feature is disabled during exercise.

Battery Life

For Long Tours the Suunto 9 Peak Pro Offers Plenty of Battery Life | Photo Brigette Takeuchi Mountain Weekly News

One of the standout features of the Suunto 9 Peak Pro is its battery life. This battery lasts up to 3 times as long as the Suunto 9 peak with tracking and notifications (21 days) and up to twice as long in GPS mode (300 hrs). This makes the Suunto 9 Peak Pro an excellent choice for extended outdoor trips and training sessions.

In addition to the outstanding battery life the watch charges extraordinarily fast. A complete charge only takes one hour and in 10 minutes you’ll have enough of a charge for 10 hours of training. We’ve all had days where we forget charge our watch… the 10-minute charge is a gamechanger.

Updated Processor and GPS Accuracy

Another impressive feature of the Suunto 9 Peak Pro is its GPS accuracy. The watch uses a combination of satellite systems to provide highly accurate location tracking, even in the most remote locations. The watch also offers a range of advanced navigation features, including route planning and real-time weather updates, making it an excellent choice for those of us who like to get way out there.

I got the opportunity to compare the GPS accuracy of the Suunto 9 Peak Pro to an older model during a long touring objective and noticed that the Peak Pro 9 was more accurate than the older model and even held its own in remote couloirs with rock faces on either side.

Sports Tracking and Features

In terms of sports tracking, the Suunto 9 Peak Pro GPS Watch offers a comprehensive range of 95+ activities. So far I’ve climbed, biked, ran and ski toured in the Suunto and barely scratched the surface of trackable activities.

In addition to sports tracking the Peak Pro 9 comes with a load of helpful features, including sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, and VO2 max analysis. I’m excited to see how my performance shifts overtime. The watch also provides detailed insights into your training and recovery, helping you to optimize your performance and avoid injury.
