In 1877, Captain Helly Hansen saw a need for better protection from the harsh Norwegian elements so he began soaking coarse linen with linseed oil. This state of the art process resulted in water resistant clothing for workers at sea. Fast forward to 2024 and Helly Hansen is still at the forefront of producing the best harsh weather outdoor gear.

The Helly Hansen Elevation Infinity 3.0 Jacket was built with the input of professional athletes and ski patrollers. This technical snow jacket is packed with thoughtful features and designs.

The Helly Hansen Elevation Infinity 3.0 features Lifa Infinity Pro which is Helly Hansens proprietary 3 layer fabric, think GORE-TEX but even more bomber. Lifa Infinity Pro is professional grade waterproof-breathable fabric where both the membrane and face fabric are solvent and pvc free with everlasting durable water repellency. It’s really nice to know this garment is responsibly made with the environment in mind.

The Helly Hansen Elevation Infinity 3.0 has proven to be an absolute workhorse. The fabric still feels brand new after many days of being stuffed into a pack, and worn thru wet ice climbs and stormy powder skiing. This jacket has great pit zip vents, and pockets in all the right places. 4 front pockets hold all the things you need accessible. One pocket in particular features “Life Pocket+” with Primaloft Gold Aerogel insulation which is scientifically designed to keep your cell phone battery alive longer. A huge safety feature in the mountains.

RECCO

Another safety feature this jacket has is RECCO. Most resorts and search and rescue programs use RECCO receivers, and having this small, built in, powerless feature could help make you searchable if lost in the outdoors. By no means is this a replacement for proper backcountry safety gear, but every advantage counts. The super visible hood color was mentioned to me from a couple different ski partners, saying they could spot me really far down the line in cloudy conditions-another great safety feature and style.

How Durable Is This Helly Hansen Jacket?

Don’t be afraid of sharp items, rocky ridges and tree branches-this jacket can take an absolute beating. In all types of conditions this jacket creates a comfortable environment for the body, breathing well, keeping the wind at bay and maintaining perfect waterproofing. I feel like you could use this jacket crab fishing on the deadliest catch! Adjustable hood, adjustable bottom hem and cuff wrist guards all help keep the weather out.

Sizing

A Larger Relaxed Fit Works Well for Layering While Mountaineering and Ski Touring | Photo Mountain Weekly News

The relaxed fit runs large. For example I am 6 ft tall with a little longer wingspan, and this Men’s Medium fit my body perfectly with the cuffs reaching the minimum comfort length. Usually I choose a large in most brands. I think I would still choose a large, but know that the fit is generous for unrestricted movement… and I never felt restricted in the medium.

Helly Hansen Elevation Infinity 3.0 Jacket Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Professional grade waterproof-breathable fabric
  • Durable in all types of conditions
  • Generous relaxed fit for unrestricted movement

Cons:

  • Relaxed fit runs large
  • No specific cons mentioned

The Helly Hansen Elevation Infinity 3.0 ($750.00) is an excellent choice if your looking for a bomber do-it-all workhorse of a jacket. This jacket is very well thought out and extremely well made. I think you would be hard pressed to find an option that works as hard as a professional ski patroller, in the field day after day, all day long, year after year. This jacket will last, will you?

    Thank you !
Affirmed my choice to move to a shell after skiing in more insulated jackets. Questions:
What level of protection from the cold does this jacket give? how do you recommend I layer up underneath the shell ? I normally only wear a skin layer plus fleece / merino wool zip top and maybe carry an additional merino thin layer in my pocket. I’m a advanced intermediate skier so I spend a high % of my time on lifts 🙂
    Hope you can help
    Cheers and thanks again
