I am in the unfortunate size range of somewhere between medium and large. I got the Forclaz MT100 Hooded Down Puffer in size large and it fit great. Enough room for layers underneath but not so loose as to be baggy. So far I’ve used this puffer the same way I always do in the winter: the perfect underlayer.

Performance and Cost

It’s no question that down jackets are one of the most versatile pieces of gear you can own. They are light, warm, packable and even fashionable. The real question is how does the Forclaz compare? Most name brand down jackets cost between $200 to $500. The Forclaz comes in at just $100 dollars. So let’s compare.

Weight – at 10.5 oz the Foreclaz puffer is quite light compared to name brand competitors

Packability – I had this jacket in my backpack as a backup layer and totally forgot it was there because of how small it packed down.

Warmth – This jacket was not quite as warm as a comparable jacket I own likely because of the synthetic down (Forclaz) vs the real down.

Durability – This jacket is far more durable than any mid-size down jacket I have come across. The outer layer is water resistant and noticeably thicker than a typical puffy.

Strengths

Based on the performance breakdown above, the Forclaz MT100 Puffer has some wonderful strengths. The Forclaz MT100 would be an excellent choice for wet or damp conditions. Synthetic down is known to do better with water exposure and the water resistant outer layer should keep things dry in many conditions. The thick outer layer was also notably better at stopping wind chill which can make a big difference on gusty days.

Forclaz MT100 Hooded Down Puffer Jacket Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Fit is versatile for layering
  • Performance comparable to high-end brands
  • Excellent durability and water resistance

Cons:

  • Synthetic down slightly less warm
  • Not as warm as some competitors

Overall, the Forclaz Men’s MT100 Hooded Down Puffer Jacket ($99.00) stands out as a a high-performing layer for a large range of conditions. This jacket is one of the most resilient in its class and only costs a fraction of the price. The Forclaz Men’s MT100 Hooded Down Puffer Jacket is a worthwhile investment for anyone with an active outdoor lifestyle.
