Le Bent Base Layer Women’s Review

Eager to make the most of winter’s final weeks after a couple week adventure in the Southern Hemisphere, I shook off the jet lag and headed north to Canada for one last taste of cold, dry powder. Alongside my usual layering system, I brought the Le Bent Heavy Weight Grid Fleece Antarctic Crew and Pants—giving me the perfect opportunity to put them to the test.

Alongside my usual layering system including pieces like the Smartwool Intraknit Thermal Hoodie and Patagonia R1 Air Fleece Hoody, I brought the Le Bent Heavy Weight Grid Fleece Antarctic Crew and Pants—giving me the perfect opportunity to put them to the test.

I typically avoid wearing base layer pants and prefer the lightest possible base layer tops. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of this set. Throughout the trip, I wore the Antarctic Grid Fleece Crew Top and Pants for skinning, skiing, and sleeping, and here’s what I discovered.

For readers comparing premium next-to-skin systems this winter, we also tested several of the season’s best ski base layers including Smartwool, Airblaster, FORLOH and Thermowave in our complete guide to the Best Ski & Snowboard Base Layers of 2026.

Technology

Le Bent designs its products using a blend of merino wool and bamboo-derived rayon, resulting in a fabric that is soft, temperature-regulating, and odor-resistant. The inclusion of rayon, known for its cashmere-like smoothness, enhances comfort and minimizes skin irritation.

Through firsthand experience, I have found that traditional merino layers can be somewhat scratchy; however, Le Bent’s merino blend offered exceptional comfort, making it a standout choice. Its advanced moisture-wicking technology effectively keeps the wearer dry and warm, while strategically integrated micro-gaps enhance breathability and cooling.

Initially, I was concerned about overheating during ascents and feeling chilled on descents, but the fabric’s temperature regulation exceeded expectations.

Additionally, during a multi-day trip without access to laundry, I anticipated issues with odor retention. However, due to Le Bent’s ability to maintain a dry, moisture-free environment, the layers remained fresh throughout the duration of the trip.

Comfort and Fit

The Le Bent Antarctic Fleece Crew and Pants offer an exceptional fit—snug yet unrestrictive, like an incredibly soft and warm second skin. The silk-like fabric is so comfortable that I often forgot I was even wearing them.

The Crew Top has a more relaxed fit compared to some of the base layers I own, providing a comfortable, non-restrictive feel. As someone with a smaller frame, I wore a size small, though I would consider sizing down for a more fitted look.

The bottoms fit true to size, offering both comfort and a flattering silhouette. Their well-balanced design provided warmth without bulk, making them an excellent choice for layering in cold conditions.

I started the trip a base layer skeptic and by the end I can truly say I have found my new go-to layers for winter ski days. From Le Bent’s advanced temperature regulation technologies to its expertly crafted merino-bamboo blend, the Le Bent Antarctic Fleece Crew and Base Layer Pants exceeded my expectations. Their comfort, performance, and versatility have made them a staple for my future expeditions.
