Tom Turiano – Teton Skiing & Climbing Guidebook Author
Episode 58 of the Everything Snowboarding, Outdoors & More Podcast – An old friend Tom Turiano came into the office for this episode of the Everything Snowboarding Outdoors and More Podcast. We spoke about Tom’s history in the Tetons and some of his mentors including living with local Jackson Hole legend Bill Briggs. Tom has updated his latest book Select Peaks of Great Yellowstone and has been the go-to source for backcountry skiing in the Tetons for decades. His books include:
- Select Peaks of Greater Yellowstone [Second Edition]
- Teton Pass Backcounty Guide [Second Edition]
- Jackson Hole Backcountry Skiers Guide South
- Teton Pass Ski Map
- Grand Teton National Park Ski Map
- Teton Skiing: A History Guide
- Select Peaks of Great Yellowstone

I can honestly say without having read his books, and followed on Tom’s heels it would have been hard if not impossible for me to safely explore the Teton backcountry. Tom Turiano is a former ski guide turned author that has done almost as much for skiing as anyone in the history of the Tetons. And that’s saying a lot! Thanks Tom.

Hi Tom, Wow, great to hear back. Yes, I think about you and the old days often too. Glad to see you are doing well. I’m living in Paris, France if you can believe it. Landlocked city living! Let’s catch up, what is the best way to reach you?
Mike, thanks for making the connection, maybe you could pass on my email address to Tom?
all the best, Paul
Great discussion! I met Tom at Snow King in fall ’85, I think he was 19 and I was 20. A great guy, and he was always an awesome skier. This brings back a lot of memories of JH in those days. Unfortunately we lost touch years ago.
Paul,
I will ask Tom to reach out.
hi Paul! Great to hear from you. I think of you often. We had some fun times! Where are you?
