Talon T787 Dual Motor E-Bike Review: TETON Tested AWD Powerhouse
Most e-bikes are built to help you cruise the neighborhood. The Talon T787 is built to conquer the mountains. At Mountain Weekly News, we put gear through the ringer in the high-elevation, variable terrain of the Tetons, and this bike—a literal “beast” of a machine—is one of the most robust “e-motos” we’ve ever swung a leg over.
It isn’t just an e-bike; it’s an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) utility vehicle on two wheels.
Dual Motor “AWD” Performance

The standout feature of the Talon T787 is the Dual 750W motor setup (peaking at a massive 3000W combined). This gives the bike a true AWD feel. Off the line, it is incredibly fast, offering the kind of torque you usually only find on a dedicated dirt bike. Whether you are climbing steep gravel inclines or navigating loose forest trails, having power delivered to both wheels ensures you don’t just “spin out”—you climb.
With a top speed of 28 MPH (and a punchy throttle), it feels sporty and aggressive. It’s the perfect “gateway” bike for someone considering a motorcycle but who wants the accessibility of an e-bike.
Weight: Not for the Faint of Heart

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: weight. This bike tips the scales at 128 lbs. This isn’t a bike you’re going to carry up a flight of stairs. That weight is a trade-off for the massive power and range, but it requires respect. Because it’s so heavy, it stays incredibly planted on the trail, resisting the “washing out” feeling that lighter bikes suffer from in deep gravel.
90-Mile Range: The Dual Battery Advantage

Talon didn’t just give this bike two motors; they gave it two batteries (48V 15.6Ah x 2). This provides a whopping 90-mile maximum range in Eco mode. While you might not hit 90 miles while ripping through city streets, having that kind of capacity is a game-changer for exploring long, remote forest service roads or spending a full day scouting deep in the Tetons without “range anxiety.”
Suspension & Comfort: The E-Moto Feel

Because of the weight, Full Suspension isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity. The T787 features a 125mm front and 50mm rear suspension system that does an excellent job of dampening road vibrations and absorbing hits from potholes or rocky trails.
The Seat: It’s a moto-style “banana seat” with extra room and padding. Note for riders: The seat is not adjustable. While Talon suggests a rider height of 5’3″ to 6’5″, we found the sweet spot to be right in the middle for the best ergonomic pedal reach.

Transportation & Assembly Safety

Transport: You cannot put this on a standard trunk rack. At 128 lbs, you need a heavy-duty solution. We recommend a moto rack or a specialized heavy-duty e-bike rack like the Kuat Piston Ion (which handles up to 120 lbs per bike). Use a loading ramp—your back will thank you.
Assembly: While Talon ships these partially assembled, we strongly recommend having a local bike shop finish the build. For a bike of this weight and power—essentially a lightweight motorcycle—having a professional check the hydraulic brakes and torque settings is a safety must for TETON-grade riding.
The Lineup: T787 vs. T757

Talon is also making waves with their T757 Fat Tire E-Bike, which retails for $699. While the T787 we tested is the “Dual Motor Beast” at $1,249, the T757 offers a more accessible entry point for city commuters with a single 750W motor, 40-mile range and significantly lighter overall weight. After spending time on both models in Jackson Hole, we found the T757 is likely the better fit for most riders looking for an affordable e-moto style e-bike.

We are looking forward to doing a side-by-side comparison soon to see how the single-motor city version stacks up against its AWD big brother.
Overall Impression

The Talon T787 is a “TETON Tested” winner for those who need rugged grit and massive payload capacity (330 lbs). It handles the vibration of gravel and dirt roads with ease and offers enough power to carry a passenger or a heavy load of gear. If you are looking for a lightweight, flickable bicycle, look elsewhere. But if you want a fast, powerful, dual-motor tank that feels like a classic cafe racer, the Talon T787 is an incredible value for the price.
Riders who like the Talon styling but don’t need dual motors should also check out our Talon T757 Fat Tire E-Bike Review, which delivers much of the same comfort, suspension and cafe-racer inspired design at a substantially lower price point.
