There is literally nothing else on earth that has the ability to mimic surfing or snowboarding in the comfort of your home office or even hotel room than the original INDO BOARD.

Why INDO Board?

First up, INDO is how we surfers refer to Indonesia. So the company clearly knows what’ up and aren’t kooks! Truly this is the best way to train for ANY Board sports.  If you are a snowboarder, surfer, skateboarder or anyone interested in the sideways lifestyle a balance board is a must have and here is why:

If you’re trying to decide which system is best for your riding style, check out our guide to the Best Balance Boards for Surfing & Snowboarding, where we compare the INDO Board against smart trainers, carving boards and office-friendly balance systems.

Core Workout

Having the ability to really drive into a snowboard turn or a big bottom turn while surfing starts at your core.  It’s these small muscles around your abs that allow you to make the micro movements and adjustments needed for controlling a board in board sports.  Your legs are not the main driver of this system, there sort of along for the ride.

The INDO Board allows the rider to work literally every single muscle in your body, especially from the chest down. And for board sports this allows muscle development and more importantly muscle memory.

Rocking back and forth on an INDO Board like a pro is not easy, nor will it be easy the first time you do it.  Perhaps you have a background in board sports you may get a “leg up” so to speak.

Nobody grows up knowing how to balance on a surfboard or snowboard. NOBODY! Everyone must learn to balance and with balancing sideways it’s more so a dance from left to right.

Picture someone standing at home in a football stance per say, now imagine that person rocking their weight from right to left. That is what board sports is. So when INDO Board came up with this legendary system in 1998 to help users rock back and forth it became a game changer for snowboarders, surfers and skateboarders across the globe.

Original INDO Board

The Original INDO Board is what I use daily, and tested for this review. It’s simplistic yet extremely athletic all at once.  What you get with this system : INDO Board to stand on ( a wide oval shaped board) and a roller that allows the board to move back and forth.  That’s It, That’s All..

Honestly it’s all you need. This board and roller alone can get you in the best shape of your life, allow you to gain incredible balance and offers lots of laughter and smiles.

Learning the INDO Board

The first few times you try and use the INDO Board are going to be rough, but once you figure out how to properly weight your front foot and you get that first rock and roll back and forth movement you will be hooked for life.

Make sure when starting out there is nothing around you to fall on, as just like with learning to surf or skate or snowboard you will take some bails.

After you become a master of pumping back and forth using both legs EQUALLY you can start to incorporate your snowboard grabs into the INDO Board. This is where the real magic happens. Or maybe you want to practice getting really low in the barrel surfing, the INDO Board will surely allow you to figure out just how low you can go, and then take you even lower.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  1. Effective Core Workout and Balance Training: The INDO Board is highly effective for developing core strength, balance, and muscle memory, specifically beneficial for board sports like surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding.

  2. Simple and Versatile: The system is very simple and only requires a board and a roller, yet it’s highly versatile and allows users to mimic the movements of various board sports and improve overall coordination.

  3. Fun and Engaging: The INDO Board is fun and engaging to use, providing a challenging workout that users enjoy which can often lead to laughter and smiles while improving physical performance.

Cons:

  1. Initial Learning Curve and Potential Falls: The first few attempts at using the INDO Board can be challenging, with a risk of falling, requiring caution and open space for beginners.

  2. Not a Replacement for All Training: While great for balance and core strength, the INDO Board alone may not be a comprehensive substitute for all aspects of training for board sports which would still require on-the-water or on-snow practice.

Overall Impression

You can go to a Pilates class to get a strong core or consider the Original INDO Board ($189.95) instead. For any snowboarders this year that really want to have better board control, more flexibility, and more fun in the mountains, you really want to buy one of these and have it accessible on the fly. Anytime someone comes to the office, they tend to jump on my INDO Board and anytime I go to t a friends home that has one the first thing I do is jump on for some INDO’ing.
