Material

Shorts with Merino Liner

First and foremost, the material used in these shorts is exceptional. The outer layer is made of a durable and quick-drying blend of synthetic fabrics that provide excellent moisture-wicking capabilities. Whether I’m hiking, running, or engaging in other outdoor activities, I never felt uncomfortable due to sweat or moisture build-up. The fabric also has a slight stretch, allowing for a full range of motion without feeling restricted.

The interior lining of the shorts is where Smartwool truly shines. It is crafted from a blend of merino wool and synthetic fibers, creating a soft and plush feel against the skin. The merino wool offers natural odor resistance, which is a significant advantage, especially during intense workouts or multi-day hikes. The lining also provides just the right amount of compression; enough to feel secure during exercise but not so much that you feel crotchtafobic.

Fit

I’m 6’1” with a slim build and found that the men’s medium with 8” inseam fit great. The elastic waistband with an adjustable drawstring allowed for a customized and secure fit. I love the 8” inseam for a good athleisure look, I might go a little shorter if I was getting them specifically for running.

Features and Construction

Smartwool has paid attention to detail with these shorts. The shorts feature multiple pockets, including two hand pockets and a zippered back pocket, providing ample space to store essentials like keys, wallet, or phone. Additionally, the construction is top-notch, with reinforced stitching and sturdy zippers that give a sense of durability.

Overall, I highly recommend the Smartwool Men’s Active Lined Short ($75.00) to anyone seeking a comfortable, versatile, and high-performance pair of shorts. Whether you’re an avid hiker, runner, or simply enjoy an active lifestyle, these shorts will exceed your expectations. Smartwool has once again delivered a top-quality product.

In terms of price, these shorts fall into the higher-end range. However, considering the quality of materials used, the attention to detail in construction, and the overall performance, I believe they are worth the investment.
