Slash Brainstrorm Splitboard Review
I’ve been up on Berthoud Pass in Colorado hunting for some early turns on the Slash Brainstorm Splitboard. It’s been variable snow conditions and pretty thin so far here in Colorado.
Slash Brainstorm Splitboard Profile

Last season I had a couple days testing the Slash Brainstorm Split riding in heavy last season powder and the board performed awesome. It was easy to float thanks to a Slash’s Backseat Camrock Profile that makes riding in deep snow feel that much easier with its setback stance.
The Brainstorm Splitboard profile features a more aggressive rocker in the nose, and camber in the middle of the board followed by additional rocker in the tail.
What surprised me the most was how the camber profile handled riding in variable snow. It offered a lot of confidence and reliable edge hold without washing out.

Then when it came for touring the camber under foot really stood out by offering ultimate traction on the skin track while going uphill.
How’s the Slash Brainstorm Ride?
Even in subpar snow the edges held great for smacking wind lips and then going for fast turns, no chop or sliding out on the Slash Brainstorm Splitboard! The progressive sidecut definitely made it feel like a fun turning board, with fast edge to edge transitions. The overall response is on point, this is definitely no plank.
The brainstorm felt super solid between the toes even buttering around was super fun. I would call it a playful mid stiffness splitboard. Torsional stiffness felt great, and it didn’t feel like a wet noodle or even 2 x 4. Especially with me being a bigger guy testing this board over 6′ 200+ lbs.
Wide Sizes Only
This Slash Splitboard is available in only 2 lengths, with both being wide versions.
- 159w
- 162w
Note: If you have smaller feet a wide splitboard might be overkill for you.
Slash Brainstorm Directional Twin Shape

The directional twin shape and flex also cater to freestyle oriented riders. I only rode switch for a little bit of a run, but the shape and camber make riding switch a breeze, especially compared to other directional oriented splitboards.
So if you like to spin of kickers in the backcountry while touring this might be a great board for your quiver. What’s really cool is the boards lifted nose and tail also make for epic hand holds for grabbing while cutting down on the splitboards overall weight

Overall Impression
I can’t say enough good things about the Slash Brainstorm Splitboard ($799.00)! I definitely recommend it as far as a mid stiffness splitboard and freestyle oriented board for the backcountry! Best of all, Slash Snowboards were designed by Gigi, so you’re supporting a company for riders by riders, not to mention some wild top sheet graphics!
Have the gear, know how to use it, check the forecasts, and have a blast.
